Leopards Take Battle for Louisville Vs. Aquinas 10-4 – Baseball
Louisville 10, St. Thomas Aquinas 4
The Louisville Leopards Varsity Baseball Team rallied to score the final 8 runs of their home opener contest at the Field of Dreams Monday Evening. The Leopards defeated the cross-town St. Thomas Aquinas Knights 10-4 to take the Battle for Louisville. With the victory, Louisville improves to 2-0 on the young season.
Casey Nau led the Leopards by batting 3-for-3 with an RBI double, an RBI single, and 2 runs scored. Corey White was also a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate with an RBI and Nathan Mongiardo also drove in a pair of runs for Louisville.
The Knights put a 3-spot up on the board in the top of the third inning to take a commanding 4-2 lead. However, the Leopards answered back with a 3-run inning of their own in the fourth and poured it on with a 5-run sixth after that.
Brody Hahn had an RBI single, Brendan Hoffman an RBI double, and Davis Burick also drove in a run for Louisville on offense. Tyler Adams also scored twice batting lead-off.
On the hill, Hahn pitched 4 1/3 innings, gave up 4 runs on 4 hits, and struck out 3 in earning the victory for the Leopards. Mongiardo shutdown Aquinas over the final 2 2/3 innings without giving up a base hit. He retired 8 of the 9 Knights hitters he faced to pick up the save.
St. Thomas was led by Nick Thomas who batted 2-for-3 with a double and 3 runs batted in. Aaron Hoffman also had an RBI single and Trever Tesch had the other Knights hit.
UP NEXT: The Leopards will next host the West Branch Warriors on Tuesday, March 28 starting at 5:00 PM. JV will be on the road in Beloit at the same time.

The JV Leopards traveled across Route 62 and blasted the host Knights 19-0 in 5 innings Monday. With the win, Louisville improves to 2-0 on the season.
Austin Cummings and Dillon Rebuck each had 3 hits including a double, 3 RBIs, and 2 runs scored to lead the Leopards. Cam Lingle batted 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, 2 RBIs, and 3 runs scored and Caleb Prasco batted 2-for-4 with a triple, 2 RBIs, and 3 runs. Max Hartline also finished with 3 hits, Eddie Budinski went 2-for-2 at the plate, and Dillon English drove in a pair of runs.
On the hill, Dominic Mongiardo and Andrew Gray combined for the 5-inning shutout. Mongiardo pitched the first inning and struck out 2. Gray finished off the final four innings and fanned 7.
