Softball’s 2-Out Magic Forces Split with Golden Eagles
The Louisville Lady Leopards split a double header with the visiting GlenOak Golden Eagles on a perfect Saturday Afternoon at LHS. GlenOak shutout Louisville in the first game 6-0, but the Lady Leopards avenged that loss with an 8-3 win in the second contest. Louisville now holds a 6-5 overall record on the year.
Game 1: GlenOak 6, Louisville 0
GlenOak Pitcher Allison baffled the Louisville bats in the opening contest as she struck out 11 in pitching a complete game shutout. The Golden Eagles scored all their runs in the fourth inning which was highlighted by England’s 3-run homer. Otani also had 2 hits for GlenOak.
The Lady Leopards were led by Aliyah English & Kylie Zifer who tallied 2 hits a piece. Morgan Harris also struck out 7 in the circle for Louisville.
Game 2: Louisville 8, GlenOak 3
Leandra Givens 2-out little tapper dribbled between three Golden Eagle defenders before reaching the edge of right field for a single. This proved to be the spark that ignited the Louisville offense to rally with 5 runs in the fourth inning to pull ahead 7-3.
Kylie Zifer followed with a go-ahead 2-run single to right-center field that scored Courtesy Runner Ellie Jackson and Givens. One pitch later, Grace Jackson doubled off the wall in right-center to put the Lady Leopards ahead 5-3. Next, Katie Cozy fouled off 5 pitches before finding the one she liked. She planted it over the far left field fence for her second 2-run homer in as many games.
In the circle, Kirsten Wharmby shutout GlenOak in the final three innings to improve her record to 3-2 on the season. She got help from some strong defensive play by Shortstop Peyton McKeever and Third Baseman Emily Cantley.
Cantley also finished a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate in doubling each time and driving in the Leopards first run of the game in the opening inning. Jackson also batted 3-for-4 at the play and crushed her fourth home run of the season off the windshield of a car in left-center field. Louisville has now homered 12 times this season.
With the victory, the Lady Leopards have now taken 6 out the last 7 meetings against the Lady Eagles. Louisville still trails the all-time series 12-19 which includes a 7-9 mark against GlenOak at home.
