Softball Wins at 4th-Ranked Perry 5-3
Louisville 5, Perry 3
The Louisville Leopards Varsity Softball Team defeated the #4 State-Ranked Perry Panthers 5-3 on the road at Pfeiffer Intermediate School Monday Evening. With the victory, Louisville improves to 11-5 on the season.
Peyton McKeever batted 3-for-3 with a double, 2 RBIs, and a run scored to lead the Leopards. McKeever’s 2-run single in the second was part of a 4-run inning for Louisville.
Emily Cantley doubled to start the frame and came home via an RBI single by Savannah Miner. Miner then stole second and advanced to third when Rylee Squire singled to center. Leandra Givens came in to run for Squire and advanced to second on defensive indifference. Both Miner and Givens came around to score on McKeever’s single to center.
McKeever scored on the next pitch when Kaycee Ollis hit a hard hit single to right field. Ollis went 2-for-4 at the dish for the Leopards.
Squire also batted 2-for-3 at the plate and cracked a solo home run to left field to lead-off the fifth. The blast was Squire’s 4th home run of the season and Louisville’s 14th of the year as a team.
In the circle, Sarah Cantley (5-2) carried a 1-hit shutout into the seventh inning before the Panthers rallied with 3 runs. Makenna Durieux and Karlee Pireu both hit back-to-back 1-Out, RBI doubles to cut the Leopard lead to 5-2. Pireu would end up scoring via an error to cut the deficit to 5-3 with 2 outs.
With the tying run at the plate, Cantley got the final Perry batter to fly out to Miner in right field to close the contest. Cantley pitched a complete game, gave up just 1 earned run on 4 hits, and struck out 5 to earn the win for Louisville.
The victory snaps the Panthers 4-game winning streak over the Leopards. Louisville still trails the all-time series 8-23, which includes a 5-8 record at Perry. The Lady Leopards had never won on the road in the series before 2010, but have now taken 5 of their past 6 meetings at Perry. Louisville is now 3-5 against out of conference foes this season.
UP NEXT: The Lady Leopards will next host the West Branch Warriors on Tuesday, April 26 at 5:00 PM in a game that will likely decide the NBC.
