Softball Swept at Keystone Tournament
The Louisville Lady Leopards competed in a four team tournament at Keystone High School Saturday afternoon. Louisville fell to the Hillsdale Falcons 7-4 in the opening contest and 8-1 to the host Keystone Wildcats in the consolation game. With the loss, the Lady Leopards fall to 1-3 on the season.
Game 1: Hillsdale 7, Louisville 4
Through the first five and a half innings the two squads managed to combine for 1 run on 3 total hits. In the final two frames the two teams exploded for 10 runs on 9 hits.
The Falcons were the biggest beneficiary of the offensive explosion as they used a 6-run sixth to take a 7-0 lead. The Leopard did not die easy as they scored 4 runs in the top of the seventh, but that is also where their comeback bid fell short.
Morgan Harris and Peyton McKeever each provided RBIs for Louisville in the final inning. In the circle, Kirsten Wharmby pitched a complete game and struck out 5 in her first start of the season.
Game 2: Keystone 8, Louisville 1
The host Wildcats jumped all over the Leopards at the start of the consolation contest. Keystone scored 7 runs during the first two innings and their pitcher, Lauren Shaw, allowed just 3 hits in a complete game effort.
Lexi Given’s infield single in the fourth inning allowed Grace Jackson to score for Louisville’s only run of the contest. Emily Cantley and Kylie Zifer had the only other hits for the Leopards. Louisville was retired by Shaw in order in 4 of the 7 innings.
In the circle, Morgan Harris pitched the entire contest for the Leopards and struck out 9 Wildcats. Keystone’s offense was led by Summer Constable and Madi Nunez who cracked a pair of hits each.
With the defeat, Louisville has now lost three consecutive games against some tough competition. Amazingly this is their longest losing streak since 2009. However, they can right the ship Monday as a win at Canton South would give them sole possession of first place in the Northeastern Buckeye Conference Standings.
UP NEXT: The Lady Leopards will next travel to Canton South to take on the Wildcats on Monday, April 13 at 4:30 PM.
