Softball Draws 5th Seed & Will Play Green Vs. Timken Winner

The Louisville Lady Leopards drew the 5th Seed at the DI Massillon District Softball Tournament Draw Sunday. They will play the Green Vs. Canton Timken Winner at home in the Sectional Finals on Thursday, May 15 at 4:30 PM.

Louisville had a 10-5 record coming into the draw with their only Division I wins coming in a Double Beatty's Sports Spring 2014 Softball Shirt 1Header Sweep of Hudson back on April 19. 10th Seeded Canton Timken is 1-9 on the season with their only victory coming at East Canton 1-0 on April 1. They have yet to face a Division I team this year. 8th Seeded Green on the other hand is 8-8 on the year and is 6-5 against DI foes. They are the favorite to win this Sectional Semifinal match-up and advance to play at Louisville.

If the Bulldogs beat the Trojans, it will be the third consecutive year that Green has traveled to Louisville to play for a Sectional Final. The Leopards won two years ago 2-0 and last year 25-3 in 5 Innings The Leopards are 5-3 against the Bulldogs all-time which includes a 2-1 record in tournament play and a 5-0 record at Louisville. The Lady Leopards have won the past five meetings in the series, all of which came in the last two season.

If Timken pulls off the upset then they will face Louisville for the first time since April 1, 1998. On that day the Leopards won by their largest margin of victory in team history 29-0 and Kim Squire threw a no-hitter. The Leopards lead the all-time series over the Trojans 10-2 and have won the last 9 overall. In their past four meetings Louisville has outscored Timken 65-0.

The winner of the Sectional Final game will face off against either Canton McKinley, Wooster, or Top-Seed North Canton Hoover in the District Semifinals. Hoover is 17-2 overall and is heavily favored to win this match-up against either #8 Seeded Wooster (10-8) or #11 Seeded Canton McKinley (0-8). Louisville fell to North Canton 13-1 Friday and also defeated them in the District Championship last year 5-1.

The Lady Leopards are 27-29 in tournament play all-time, which includes an 8-7 record since entering Division I in 2006. Under Head Coach Chet Givens, Louisville is 6-4 in tournament action and has won a Sectional Championship each of the past four seasons.
