Leopards Freshman Down Quakers in Tournament Opener
Louisville 45, Salem 34
The 2nd Seed Louisville Leopards Freshman Basketball downed the 7th Seed Salem Quakers 45-34 in the opening round of the Freshman Basketball Tournament at Minerva High School Early Saturday Morning. With the victory, Louisville improves to 16-5 on the season.
Collin Chambers scored a game-high 19 points to lead the Leopards. Carter Rode also hit 3 three-pointers to finish with 13 and Cole White added 8.
A key to Louisville’s victory came at the charity stride. The Leopards made 19 of 25 free throw attempts led by Chambers’ 10 of 13 effort at the line. Oppositely, the Quakers failed to convert any of their 5 free throws in the contest.

Salem was led by Zach Murray who scored a team-high 8 points. Kaleb Caldwell also added 7 and Cade Campolito tallied 6. The Quakers end their season with an overall mark of 4-11.
With the win, the Leopards advance to play the 3rd Seed South Range Raiders in the Freshman Tournament Semifinals Monday at 7:00 PM at Minerva High School. South Range defeated 6th Seed Marlington Dukes 46-35 in their opening round matchup Saturday.
The Raiders replaced the West Branch Warriors as the only non-NBC team in the tournament. South Range will be a part of the newly formed Eastern Buckeye Conference with 6 other NBC teams starting in the 2018-19 season. The Leopards and Raiders will do battle after top seeded Canton South takes on 4th Seed Carrollton at 5:30 PM Monday.
