PREVIEW

Non-Conference play is over and each team will be playing for something other than Harbin Points this week. Salem comes into the game at 2-1 defeating both Liberty & United by narrow margins. The Quakers are looking to make a statement in conference play after going 0-10 a year ago. Louisville found a way to win close contests against Canfield & North Canton before winning convincingly at Ravenna. The Leopards will now take their “Revenge Tour II” campaign into league play. Both programs have a lot of Tradition to defend on the field Friday night as their meetings date back to the 1920’s.

1992 Louisville Leopards at Salem Quakers Highlights

LEOPARDS

OFFENSE: Louisville’s offense is averaging 197 yards (103 Rushing, 93 Passing), 11 First Downs, and 21 Points Per Game this season. The Leopards have been out-gained in all three contests this season, but have managed to find a will & a way to win. That will has started with Quarterback Connor Zwick who leads the team in both Passing (23 of 41 for 280 Yards, 3 TDs) and Rushing (63 Rushes, 156 Yards, 3 TDs). Zwick’s most frequent target has been Andy Minster who leads the team in receptions with 12, yards with 138, and is one of three receivers who have caught touchdowns for Louisville this year. Alex Hollifield led the team in receiving last week on the blue turf and has caught 4 passes for 55 yards and a touchdown this season. Bryce Mathie (3 Catches, 46 Yards), Kyle Bast (1 Receiving Touchdown), and Kyle Woost (1 Catch, 20 Yards) have also made receptions in the receiving core this season. Runningback Walter Schrock has also helped carry the load in the backfield with 47 carries for 145 yards. Schrock has both power and breakaway speed and he will be searching for his first touchdown of the season Friday. Jonah Dawson earned Offensive Player of the Week for Louisville last week at Ravenna from the offensive line.

DEFENSE: The Leopards defense is giving up 262 Yards (140 Rushing, 122 Passing) and 15 Points per contest this season. Louisville has surrendered just 10 points in the first half this year including none in Beatty's Sports Grey Hat Adthe first quarter. Continuing this trend will help the Leopards start NBC play strong. Garrett Yoder leads the Louisville defense with 20.5 Tackles, 14 Solo Tackles, and 2 Forced Fumbles. Along with Yoder in the secondary, AJ Minster has 1 of the Leopards 2 interceptions this season, has also recovered two fumbles, and has a team-leading 3 passes broken up. Linebacker Zach Shea claimed the other interception last week at Ravenna on a 52 yard pick six. Shea leads all linebackers with 20 Tackles, 13 Solo Tackles, a forced fumble, and has also tallied 1 sack. These accolades earned him Defensive Player of the Week last week. Both Dylan Kline (19 Tackles, 8 Solo Tackles, 4 Tackles for Loss) and Cory Neff (16.5 Tackles, 4 Tackles for Loss) have recorded 3 sacks each on the defensive line. Rounding out the defense are Josh Brown (17 Tackles, 7 Solo Tackles, 1 Sack), Stephen Kerzan (11.5 Tackles, 7 Solo Tackles), Lewis Adkins (9 Tackles, 2 Sacks), Cole McElroy (8.5 Tackles, 1 Sack), and Frankie Falcone (3.5 Tackles for Loss).

SPECIAL TEAMS: Kicker Jordan Hughes became the first Louisville player to make three field goals in a single game last week in possibly decades. Hughes has converted on 6 of 7 field goals this season and made 5 of 5 extra point attempts. Zwick has averaged 37.5 yards on 13 punts this year with a long of 58. Yoder has taken the majority of returns on special teams this season averaging 8.3 per punt return and 18.0 per kick return. Opponents are averaging 14.9 yards per kick return and 9.0 yards per punt return this season.

QUAKERS

OFFENSE: Salem’s Offense has averaged 252 Yards (169 Rushing, 83 Passing), 13 First Downs, and 22 Points Per Game. The key to the Quakers success has been protecting the ball as they have just 3 turnovers in 3 games. Quarterback Trace Jenkins has proven to be a multi-dimensional threat as he has completed 23 of 42 passes for 241 yards and 4 touchdowns against 2 interceptions, he has also rushed the ball 57 times for 102 yards and 2 touchdowns. However, East Liverpool held Jenkins to just 1 yard on 15 carries a week ago. Runningback Hadean Panezott has rushed the ball 57 times for 287 yards and proved he can break away with a 44 yard touchdown run against United in Week 2. Panezott has rushed for over 100 yards twice this season and also has 6 catches for 34 yards. Wide Recevier Marcus Crittenden has proved to be a dual threat as well.
