Louisville Leopards Wrestling at North Canton Holiday Tournament 2017

Louisville Leopards Navy Blue Hoodie Established 1924 - Beatty's Sports Fall 2017The Louisville Leopards Wrestling Team placed 3rd out of 34 teams at the 58th Annual North Canton Holiday Tournament this past weekend. Louisville compiled 146.5 points as a team which was only bested by the second place CVCA Royals with 175 and the team tournament champion Wadsworth Grizzlies who posted 241.

Overall 6 different Leopards placed individually led by Garett Lautzenheiser who placed 1st in the 106 weight class. Lautzenheiser won all 5 of his matches to improve to 7-0 on the season. This included defeating Dublin Coffman’s James Baumann by technical fall 23-5 in the first place match.

Grove Appliance Alliance Ohio AdRyan Jakubiak (113) and Jax Leonard (152) both finished in second place for their respective weight classes. In the process, Jakubiak notched his 100th career victory by pinning Ripley’s Luke Miller at the 3:22 mark in the second round of the tournament. Jakubiak earned an 8-1 decision in the Quarterfinals and also won by sudden victory in the Semifinals to advance to the championship match. In the final round he fell to undefeated Jacob Decatur of CVCA by a 7-3 decision. Jakubiak now holds a 102-36 record for his career.

Leonard won by fall in three separate rounds on his way to the championship match of the 152 weight class. There he fell to Steubenville’s undefeated Josh Hubbard my major decision 10-0.

Davin Rhoads (126), Carter Mickley (132), and Brent Paulus (170) all placed 5th individually to round out the scoring for Louisville. Rhoads earned a 7-1 decision against Minerva’s Ethan Mueller in the 126 5th place match. Mickley claimed the 132 5th place match by forfeit over Shaker Heights’ Jaivon Jones. In 170, Paulus doubled up Huntington’s Drew Parde 8-4 to claim his 5th place match.

UP NEXT: The Leopards will next travel to Alliance to take on the Aviators on Thursday, December 21. Middle School will begin at 5:30 PM and Varsity will follow at approximately 7:00 PM from Harry Fails Gymnasium.
