Multiple Hat Tricks Leads Lady Leps Past Tigers

Michelle Patterson and Mackenzie Storlie each had hat tricks in leading the Louisville Lady Leopards past the Massillon Lady Tigers 7-2 Monday night at Paul Brown Tiger Stadium.

The Leopards got on the board just 3:30 into the game when Sarah Jaroszyk made a beautiful pass from the left corner to Storlie who banged it home from just in front of the net.  Following Storlie’s goal the two teams remained scoreless taking up nearly an half hour off the clock.

But the drought ended when Jarosyk made another nice pass this time leading Patterson just enough for her to bury a deep shot that penetrated the back of the net.

The Tigers struck back less than three minutes later to cut the deficit in half at 2-1.

The Leopards fought through seemingly countless offsides calls and through plays where contact was made, but no whistle blew.  Finally, after eleven minutes of pressure by the Lady Leps the Tiger defense finally caved when Patterson broke free and placed her second goal of the contest into the left side of the net.

Rachel Baughman shot a pass through a gap of players from midfield and Storlie outraced the defense, slid to kick the ball, and buried it into the net to make it 4-1 Lady Leps.

Massillon scored with 12:47 remaining in the contest on a header off of a corner kick to cut the Leopards lead to 4-2.

But, the volcano erupt minutes later when Louisville scored three times in just 1:22 seconds.  Liz Stefanik tapped a pass to the left and Patterson one timed the pass towards the net.  The lob kick went above the goalie and bounced into the right side of the net to complete the hat trick for Patterson.

Not to be outdone by her teammate, Storlie scored moments later by angling in a goal from the right side of the net for her third goal of the contest.  Her goal was set up by another excellent lead pass by Baughman, who also didn’t want to be left out on the 80 second clinic.  She broke free 32 seconds later for a goal of her own.

The scoreboard that had only read the word “Louisville” one time previous to this game (2007 State Title Football game) flashed 7-2 Lady Leps and that’s how it remained until the clock ticked down to 0:00.  In the Lady Leopards soccer debut at Paul Brown Tiger Stadium, they gave Louisville their first ever win at the venue in any sport.

NEXT UP: The Lady Leopards will travel to Carollton to take on the Warrors on Wednesday, September 14 at 5:00 PM.
