Minerva Breaks Spell Against Louisville in Baseball

The Louisville Leopards were defeated by the host Minerva Lions 3-2 Wednesday Evening at Carl Michael Field. With the loss, Louisville falls to 12-8 overall and 7-2 in the NBC.

Just like in their first meeting, the Leopards jumped out to an early first inning lead. Tyler Adams tripled to start the game and came home when Joe Crank reached base on an error. Crank eventually came home via an overthrow giving Louisville a 2-0 lead.

A pitcher’s duel ensued and neither team scored until the Lions put up 3 runs in the bottom of the sixth. Mitch Croston cracked a 2-run double bringing home Tyler Stewart and Zane Zeedrich to knot the game at 2-2. Long then drove home Croston to give Minerva the lead.

Croston also pitched a complete game, struck out 4, gave up just 3 hits, and had 2 hits on offense. Zeedrich also went 2-for-2 at the plate for the Lions.

The loss snaps Louisville’s 15-game winning streak against Minerva. The last time the Lions beat the Leopards prior to Wednesday came on May 17, 2007 in the DII District Semifinals by a score of 2-0. The last time Louisville lost at Minerva was by the same score of 3-2 on April 14, 2005.

UP NEXT: The Leopards will next travel to Salem to take on the Quakers on Thursday, April 30 at 4:30 PM. JV will be home during the same time.

The Leopards JV Squad pounded the visiting Lions 20-4 in 5 Innings Wednesday. With the victory, Louisville is now 15-3 overall and 9-0 against conference foes.

Casey Nau batted 3-for-3 at the plate with 4 runs scored and 2 runs batted in to lead the Leopards. Trevor Burk also had 2 hits, a pair or RBIs, and amazingly played all nine positions in the field during the contest. Tyler Croxton & Drew Dyer also had 2 hits each as Louisville cracked 14 singles as a team.

Starting Pitcher Chase Lautzenheiser earned the victory on the mound and struck out 3.

Satchel Strickmaker batted 2-for-4 with a double, triple, 2 runs scored, and 4 runs batted in to lead the Leopards. BJ Singer and Andrew Casto also both finished 3-for-3 at the plate for Louisville.

On the hill, Tristian Collins gave up only 1 earned run on 5 hits and also struck out 3 in a complete game effort
