Leopards Score 11 Runs in the 4th Inning to Rally Past Dukes – Baseball

Cam King Louisville Leopards at Massillon Tigers 2018

Louisville 11, Marlington 5

The Louisville Leopards Varsity Baseball Team remained unbeaten in the NBC with an 11-5 home victory over the Marlington Dukes Wednesday Evening at the Field of Dreams. With the victory, Louisville is now 13-4 overall and 7-0 in the NBC.

Beatty's Sports Fall 2016 Louisville Leopards Blue HatCam King batted 2-for-4 with a double, a pair of RBIs, and 2 runs scored to lead the Leopards. Dillon Rebuck and Caleb Prasco also drove in a pair of runs for Louisville.

The Leopards trailed 3-0 after three innings before exploding for 11 runs in the fourth. Louisville brought 16 batters to the plate and used just 4 hits to produce the double digit run total. Ten of the 11 runs scored in the inning came after two outs were recorded.

King singled to left and Davis Burick was hit by a pitch to start the inning. After an out, Prasco singled to right and an error allowed every runner to advance bringing King to the plate. Burick was thrown out at home for the second out. A balk on the second pitch of the next at-bat brought Prasco home to make it 3-2 and cleared the bases.

But the Leopards were not done as they restarted their rally. Jackson Kandel walked and Rebuck reached on an error. Jack Davis walked next to load the bases. Dom Mongiardo and Bryce Zuppe then drew 2 walks on 9 pitches plating both Kandel and Rebuck to put Louisville ahead 4-3.

Then King doubled on a fly ball to center scoring both Davis and Mongiardo flipping the deficit on the Dukes 6-3. Burick was intentionally walked with first base open to reload the bases. Cam Lingle walked on 4 pitches, Prasco walked, and Kandel was hit by a pitch for 3 more runs without the ball being put into play.

Finally, Rebuck belted a 2-run single to left to cap off the inning scoring Lingle and Prasco. The 11 runs are the most the Leopards have scored in an inning since 2010. Louisville also scored 11 runs in the fourth inning at Marlington on April 6, 2010 in a 23-6 victory over the Dukes. Bobby Swigert smashed 2 home runs in that contest.

On the hill, Jordan Shearer started the game and struck out 2. Davis relieved Shearer in the third inning, struck out 2, and ended up recording the victory to move to 3-1 on the season. Dillon English closed out the final 2 innings and also struck out 1.

The Dukes (8-3, 5-2) were led by Zach Dezenzo who had 2 of their 5 hits and drove in a run. Andrew Carr also had 2 RBIs and Andrew Pucci tallied an RBI for Marlington. The two teams will rematch at Marlington on Thursday for the final time in the NBC.
