Louisville 21, Marlington 9

The Louisville Leopards rallied from an early two score deficit to down the visiting Marlington Dukes 21-9 back on September 23, 1994.

Marlington took control of the contest early. The Dukes took the opening kickoff and marched 68 yards in 3:50 before scoring on Quarterback Marcus Coldsnow’s 3 yard touchdown run. Kicker Ryan Robbins would also boot through a 25 yard field goal attempt to extend the Marlington advantage to 9-0 with 4:17 remaining in the first half. Just plays earlier, the Dukes recovered a fumble on the Leopards 32 to setup the score.

Louisville answered back on the ensuing 74 yard drive that featured 7 straight smash mouth running Beatty's Sports Louisville Vs. Poland Playoff Shirtplays. Runningback Dan Wilson capped off the series with an 8 yard touchdown run to cut the deficit to 9-7 with 1:39 left before halftime. Wilson would finish the evening with 25 carries for 153 yards on the ground.

At the start of the second half, Wilson looked to give the Leopards the lead when he returned the opening kickoff to the house. However, a flag brought the score back and Louisville started from their own 25. Eleven plays later, Jamie Elkins pounded the ball in from a yard out with 7:06 left in the third. Wilson ran in the two-point try to give the Leopards a 15-9 touchdown advantage.

Louisville iced the game in the fourth quarter with a 61 yard scoring drive. All 10 plays on the drive were runs including Jason Siegfried’s 7 yard touchdown carry. After a failed conversion attempt, the Leopards led 21-9.

Louisville went on to win the game despite being out-gained by winless Marlington 254-248.
