Louisville Leopards at Canfield Cardinals 2014 Football Highlights
Louisville 24, Canfield 7
The Louisville Leopards opened up the 2014 campaign with a solid 24-7 victory over the host Canfield Cardinals at Bob Dove Field Friday.
Walter Schrock led the Leopards with 12 carries for 158 yards and scored 2 second half touchdowns. Schrock zig-zagged to the endzone from 47 yards out in the third and then sprinted down the right sideline for a 79 yard back-breaking score in the fourth.
Canfield held an advantage early on when Aaron Jenkins slipped by the Louisville defense for a 55 yard touchdown scamper. Jenkins would finish 141 yards on 27 carries. The Cardinals continued to move the ball into Leopard territory during the first half, but two missed field goals left the game within a single possession.
Louisville seized the opportunity by answering with a 4 play, 80 yard drive that only took 1:38. Quarterback Connor Zwick ran for 31 yards on the first play to cross midfield. On the very next play, Zwick hit a leaping Tyler Adams for a 32 yard gain to the Canfield 17. Two plays later, Zwick completed a pass to Kyle Woost who weaved his way to a 17 yard touchdown to knot the game at 7-7.
Zwick finished 13 of 18 for 108 yards passing and rushed the ball 16 times for 79 yards. Woost finished as the Leopards top receiver with 6 catches for 47 yards.
Louisville looked to go ahead two scores after Schrock’s first touchdown, but fumbled the ball away at the Canfield 4. However, the Leopards defense responded four plays later when Casey Nau came out of a pile with the ball. That led to an Austin Terra 27 yard field goal to put Louisville in command 17-7. Joe Crank also made an interception late to seal the deal for the Leopards.
With the victory, the Leopards have now defeated the Cardinals in three straight meetings and now lead the all-time series 3-2. They are also now 2-0 at Canfield.
