Louisville Wins 400th & 401st Game After Sweeping Lake
Game 1: Louisville 14, Lake 4, 6 Innings
Louisville went yard three times during a 14-4, 6 inning win over visiting Lake in Game 1 of a Double Header Saturday. The victory was the Lady Leopards Softball Program’s 400th all-time.
Katie Cozy led Louisville by hitting 2 for 4 with a 2-run Homer and a 2-run Single. Lexi Givens also batted 2 for 4 with a 3-run home run and a double. Grace Jackson also hit a 2-run rocket past the parking lot in right field and scored 3 runs for the Lady Leopards. For Cozy it was her 4th home run of the season, for Givens her 3rd, and for Jackson her 7th.
In the circle, Kirsten Wharmby retired the first 12 Blue Streak hitters as the Lady Leopards pounced out to a 6-0 advantage. In the fifth inning, Louisville made two fielding errors and as a result all 4 of Lake’s runs in the inning were unearned. Wharmby also sent the Blue Steaks down 1-2-3 in the sixth inning on her way to a 2-hit complete game effort.
Amy Hoover also cracked 3 hits and scored 2 runs, Annie Woolf smashed 2 doubles, and Meghan Leasure had 2 hits and 2 runs.
Game 2: Louisville 9, Lake 5
With the game tied in the sixth inning, Keri Hupp hit a Grand Slam to lift Louisville past Lake in a 9-5 come-from-behind victory in Game 2. With the win, the Lady Leopards are now 16-6 on the season.
The Blue Streaks captured an early 3-0 first inning lead before going on to take a 5-2 advantage midway through the fourth inning. In the bottom of the frame, Katie Cozy hit an RBI Double and Annie Woolf cracked an RBI Single to cut the deficit to 5-4.
Things looked dismal as the first two Louisville batters were retired to start the bottom of the sixth. 
However, Grace Jackson slugged her team-high 8th home run of the season to knot the game at 5-5. After that, Cozy singled, Woolf reached base via error, and Emily Cantley was hit by a pitch to load the bases.
Hupp saved her best of the day for last by rocketing the ball over the head of her parents and into the parking lot in center field. The blast was her 3rd home run of the season and the team’s 23rd on the year. The Lady Leopards are edging ever closer to their team-high 25 set back in 2011.
Cantley also singled home a run in the first inning and Kylie Zifer walked with the bases loaded for the other RBI. Jackson finished with 3 runs scored.
With the victory, Louisville has won 6 out of the last 8 meetings against Lake. However, the Blue Streaks still lead the all-time series 29-14. The Lady Leopards all-time record now stands at 401-338 all-time.
