Louisville Wins 10th Straight Against Rival Minerva

On a night when Minerva controlled their own playoff destiny, it was Louisville that fired on all cylinders.  The Lions raced out to a 13-7 lead, before the Leopards scored 35 unanswered in route to their 10th straight victory over their archrival.  The Louisville Leopards (7-3) defeated the Minerva Lions (8-2) Friday Night 42-20 in the final game of the year at the new Louisville Leopards Stadium.

For the Leopards, quarterback Chad Neff passed for 99 yards, ran for 171 yards, and had five total touchdowns.  Neff scored on runs from 43, 1, and 30 yards.  Receivers Mitch Sluss and Michael Schooley had a combined 6 catches for 80 yards, and each scored a touchdown.  Runningback Lucas Poyser ran for 135 of Louisville’s 308 rushing yards, which included a 13-yard touchdown run.

For the Lions, runningback Drew Prendergast scored all of the Lions touchdowns on carries of 8, 2, and 1.  Prendergast finished the night with 183 yards on the ground.  Quarterback DJ Marrah finished with 106 yards through the air and 80 on the ground.  Also, wide receiver Jeremy Fick led all Minerva receivers with 6 catches for 60 yards.

PLAYOFF PICTURE:

  • Despite their win, Louisville will miss the playoffs by 0.05 of a point to Zanesville for Divsion II, Region 7’s 8th and final playoff spot.  The Leopards finish the season 7-3 and  6-1 in the NBC.
  • The Lions finish the season 8-2 and 5-2 in NBC play.  The Lions need Richmond Edison (8-1) to lose to Indian Creek (5-4) on Saturday in order to claim the 8th spot in Division III, Region 11.  If the Lions do make the playoffs they will play at Marlington in a rematch of Week 6 next Friday.
