Louisville Nipped By Tallmadge 1-0, Leopards Finish as District Runner Up – Baseball

The #2 Seed Louisville Leopards Baseball Team fell to the Top Seed Tallmadge Blue Devils in the DII Akron District Championship Wednesday Evening at Canal Park. With the loss, Louisville finishes the 2018 season with a 22-8 record after their first District Final appearance since 2009.
Bryce Zuppe hit a 2-out double in the third inning for the Leopards only hit of the contest. On the mound, Jordan Shearer pitched a complete game in throwing 6 innings, giving up just 1 run on 3 hits, and striking out 3. Shearer finishes the season with a record of 6-1 on the hill.
The game remained in a scoreless deadlock until the bottom of the sixth inning. The first three Tallmadge hitters reached base without an out being recorded. Phillip Glasser was hit by a pitch, Seth Gergely reached on a bunt single, and Zach Boyd walked to load the bases. In the next at-bat Scott Seeker hit a sacrifice fly to left center field that brought home a sliding Glasser for the only run of the contest.
Louisville escaped the frame without any further damage. A squeeze attempt was blown up when the Blue Devil batter failed to make contact and Leopards Catcher Jackson Kandel tagged the runner trying to advance home. A line out to third baseman Dillon Rebuck ended the inning on the next pitch.
The top of the seventh began with Davis Burick hitting a ground ball to short. Burick appeared to have beaten the throw to first, but the umpire called him out. The next two batters were retired after that ending the season for Louisville.
The Blue Devils out-hit the Leopards 3-1 for the contest. Jared Burick had a triple for Tallmadge and both Gergely and Sam Seeker recorded singles. Burick also pitched a complete game 1-hit shutout and struck out 5.
