Leopards Shine at Salem Under the Lights – Baseball
Louisville 18, Salem 3, 5 Innings
The Louisville Leopards Varsity Baseball Team mercied the host Salem Quakers 18-3 in 5 Innings Friday Night at Salem High School. With the victory, Louisville improves to 15-4 overall and continues their unbeaten ways through league play at 9-0.
Bryce Zuppe set the tone from the start in blasting the first pitch of the game over the fence in right field for a solo homer. The Leopards batted around in the opening frame and Zuppe delivered a 1-out double scoring Dillon English from from second to make it 7-0 Louisville. A bases loaded double play ended the inning for the Leopards or they may have matched their 11-run inning from Wednesday’s game against Marlington.

Louisville added another 6 runs during the third inning to go ahead by double digits at 13-3. Davis Burick smashed a home run to left for the second straight game. The 2-run shot was 1 of his 3 hits on the night as the Leopards pounded out 11 as a team. Collectively, LHS has hit 7 dingers this season, which is the most since 2010 and more than the last 4 seasons combined.

Louisville got production all throughout their starting lineup and the bench. 7 different Leopards recorded hits, 9 drove in runs, and 11 scored. Caleb Prasco batted 2-for-2, drove in 3 runs, and scored twice. Cam King also drove in a pair of runs and scored 3 times, Max Hartline hit a 2-run single, and Cam Lingle scored 3 times even without recording a hit. Austin Cummings, Jack Davis, Dillon English, and Dillon Rebuck all knocked in runs for the Leopards as well.
On the mound, Noah Gustaitis pitched all 5 innings, gave up 2 earned runs on 4 hits, and struck out 6. Gustaitis improves to 2-0 on the year with the victory.
The Quakers (7-9, 1-8) scored 2 of their 3 runs off RBI hits in the home half of the first. Adam Wilson singled in Ricky Enlow and Bryce Owen drove home Jake Maenz. Salem would take on one more in the second inning when Turner Johnson scored on a passed ball.
The Quakers managed just two base runners over the course of their final three innings, both getting on via lead-off walks. The first was retired on a 1-6-3 double play to end the third. The second was left stranded after Gustaitis struck out the side to end the game in the fifth.
