Lady Leopards Use Record 13-Run 4th Inning to Win Final Meeting at Minerva – Softball

Louisville Leopards Softball 2018 After District Semifinal Win Over Lake Blue Streaks

Louisville 16, Minerva 3, 5 Innings

The Louisville Leopards Girls Varsity Softball team run-ruled the host Minerva Lions 16-3 in 5 Innings Friday Evening at Minerva Middle School. With the victory, Louisville improves to 23-2 overall and is now one win away from their 10th straight NBC title with a league mark of 12-1.

Beatty's Sports - Softball Love ShirtTeagan Rice batted a perfect 3-for-3 with a 2-run double, 3 RBIs, and 3 runs scored to lead the Leopards. Sarah Cantley also went 3-for-4 with 2 RBIs, Sydney McKeever finished 3-for-4 and scored 3 runs, and Justina Sirohman also drove in 3 runs.

With the game tied 3-3 at the end of the third, the Lady Leopards put up 13 runs in the top of the fourth to take complete control of the contest. Louisville brought 18 batters to the plate and pounded out 12 of their 18 total hits in the frame. The Leopards scored 11 of those 13 runs with two outs as 12 consecutive hitters reached base before the third out was recorded. Highlighting that string was a rare pair of back-to-back doubles by Sirohman and Ellie Jackson.

The 13 runs ties a Louisville team record for most runs in a single inning. The Lady Leopards also scored 13 runs in the second inning while hosting GlenOak in 2012 and 13 runs in the 1st inning at Carrollton in 2013.

Shae Thomas, Sirohman, and Lexi Zavarelle also each cracked a pair of hits in the contest for LHS. Alex Fankhauser, Kaycee Ollis, Thomas, and Zavarelle all tallied RBIs as well.

In the circle, Thomas started the game pitching 2 1/3 innings and striking out 3. Cantley finished off the remaining 2 2/3 innings, gave up no runs on 1 hit, and struck out 3 to improve to 19-2 on the season.

The Lions (12-8, 7-7) were led by Amber Hume who batted 2-for-3 with a 1-out, 2-run double in the bottom of the third. The hit scored both Aubrey Stanford and Elyssa Imler to knot the game at 3-3. Imler also drove in Stanford in the bottom of the first for the other Minerva run.

With the victory, the Leopards have now defeated the Lions in 20 straight meetings including the last 10 played at Minerva. Louisville now leads the all-time series 44-10 with a 22-5 record in games played on the road in the series. All 54 contests were NBC league games.
