Leopards Pounce on Lions 17-0 – Softball

The Louisville Leopards Varsity Softball Team mauled the host Minerva Lions 17-0 Tuesday Evening. With their sixth straight shutout, Louisville remains unscored upon and unbeaten at 6-0.
The Leopards pounded out 19 hits as a team led by Rylee Squire’s 4-for-5 performance at the plate. Squire had an RBI double, RBI single, and scored 3 runs. Lexi Zavarelle also drove in 4 runs, Savannah Miner drove in 3 runs, and Sydney McKeever had 3 hits & scored 3 runs.
Sarah Cantley started her second straight game, pitched 5 innings, gave up just 3 hits, and struck out 5. Cantley improves her record to 2-0 on the year with the victory. Kirsten Wharmby also finished the final two innings without giving up a hit and striking out 3 for Louisville.

The Leopards held a 2-0 advantaged before erupting for 6 runs in the fifth. Minerva escaped the run-rule, but Louisville exploded for 8 runs in in the top of the seventh. The Leopards batted through the order and made 12 plate appearances during the frame.
Justina Sirohman cracked a 2-run triple in that same seventh inning. Alex Fankhauser and Miner also had a pair of hits. Seven different Louisville batters drove in runs including Fankhauser, Cassidy Glyder, and Teagan Rice.
With the victory, the Leopards have now defeated the Lions in 17 straight meetings, which includes the last 9 at Minerva. Louisville now leads the all-time series 41-10, which includes a 21-5 mark on the Lions home field. The Leopards have now won 50 of their last 51 road contests in the NBC.
Their 6-0 record ties the 1996 team for the best start in Louisville Softball history.
