Louisville 37, Minerva 29

Louisville ended up on top in a back-and-forth affair with host rival Minerva back on November 4, 1994. The Leopards won the game 37-29 to conclude the season.

“It’s a shame there had to be a loser,” Louisville Head Coach Rick Crislip said of the classic game. “It’s a shame there had to be a scoreboard in this game. It was a fine football game.”

Dan Wilson’s 55 yard touchdown run with 52 seconds left in the third quarter broke a 29-29 tie and it proved to be the game-winning score. Wilson finished the game with 158 yards on 24 carries and ended the season with a Louisville record 1,702 yards.

Although Wilson carried the load for the Leopards, it was runningback Jason Siegfried who played
Beatty's Sports Blue Football Schedule Shirtcloser. He reached the endzone thrice on runs of 2, 1, and 7 yards. Jamie Elkins also rushed for a Louisville Touchdown from 5 yards out.

Through the air, Ryan Crislip finished 5 of 8 for 76 yards. He also completed a two-point conversion pass to Ben Biery on what looked to be a broken play and ran in a two-point conversion of his own later on.

The Lions never led in the ball game, but tied the game on three different occasions after the Leopards had taken the lead. Amazingly, Minerva’s Senior Runningbacks Darren McConnell and Jeff Wallace each broke 1,000 yards in the contest (McConnell 76 for 1,015 and Wallace 93 for 1,014). These two backs were also responsible for the Lions final 2 touchdowns.

Minerva Quarterback Damion Clapper was 9 of 16 for 110 yards and completed the only touchdown pass of the game to Jason Mikes from 27 yards out in the first quarter. Clapper also scored on a 5 yard touchdown scamper and later on a two-point conversion to knot the game at 29-29.

However, it was the Leopards that scored last to improve their record to 8-2, 6-1 in downing the Lions who finished 7-3, 5-2.
