Libertore Rewrites Record Book At Lake – Boys Basketball

Lake 68, Louisville 44

The Louisville Leopards Boys Varsity Basketball team fell to the host Lake Blue Streaks 68-44 in Lake High School Tuesday Night. With the loss, Louisville Beatty's Sports Fall 2016 Louisville Leopards Blue Hatfinishes the regular season with a record of 14-8.

Chris Libertore scored 10 of his game-high 18 points in the second half to lead the Leopards. Just before halftime, Libertore missed the back end of a pair of free throws, stormed into the key to get his own rebound, and laid it back up and in for the score. The make gave Libertore 511 points for the year and the Louisville Single Season Scoring Record previously held by Jon Aljancic who scored 510 points during Louisville’s only District Title season of 1992-93. Libertore has effectively rewritten the Leopards Record Book for points in terms of most scored in a half, game, season, and career.

Louisville played a tight back-and-forth first quarter with the home Lake squad leading 17-13 at the end of eight minutes. Jared Mathie led the Leopards in the quarter scoring 7 of his 8 points in the period.

The Blue Streaks continued to extend their lead in outscoring the Leopards 45-22 over the course of the second and third quarter. Twelve different Lake Grove Appliance Alliance Ohio Adplayers found the basket led by Joe McBride dropping in a team-high 12. Jake Maranville also scored 10 and Jim Kirven added 7. After building a 62-35 lead, the Blue Streaks cruised in the fourth quarter to improve their record to 15-6 on the season.

Louisville was held to only 4 three-point makes during the game. Derek Zeller made half of the Leopards shots beyond the arch to finish with 6.

Lake has now defeated Louisville in 5 of their past 7 meetings. The Leopards now trail the all-time series 12-19 dating back to their first meeting in 1980. Louisville finishes 2-6 in non-conference play and 1-5 against Federal league foes. The last time the Leopards lost a game they won five straight contests, they will look emulate a similar run when they start tournament play March 4 at Boardman.

The Leopards fell to the host Blue Streaks 57-24 in the season finale at Lake High School Tuesday Evening. With the loss, Louisville finishes the season with a record of 16-6.

Craig Bast and Kaleb McCartney each scored 5 points to lead the Leopards. Scott Gronow and Spencer Hall also had 4 points a piece.

Nick Mazzalla poured in a game-high 22 points to lead the Blue Streaks. Logan Fedor also dropped home 13 and Kam Casey added 7.
