PREVIEW

For all-intensive purposes the Preview could stop here. This is a 90-year-old rivalry between teams that have played every single season since 1924. Match-ups, Records, & Statistics can all be thrown out when the Leopards and Vikings meet for the 92nd time.

LEOPARDS

Runningback Walter Schrock was the big story last Friday as he darted for two long touchdown runs and rushed for 158 yards on 12 carries (13.2 yards per run). He will look to clone his performance Friday when Beatty's Sports Nothing is Given Shirt Full Size Adhe rushes against a North Canton defense that allowed 267 yards rushing last week at Stow. He will continue his running behind the offensive line that includes: Terry Gooch (5’11, 259), Alex Hall (6’6, 244), Jarrod Moran (5’9, 226), Nick Nappi (5’7, 210), and Austin Shaheen (6’0, 217).

The Leopards did not go to the air a whole lot last Friday, but when they did Quarterback Connor Zwick was an efficient 13 of 18 for 108 yards with one touchdown to leading receiver Kyle Woost (6 Catches, 47 Yards). Zwick also found targets in Tyler Adams (3 catches, 43 yards), Schrock, and Ryan Lautner. Zwick’s athleticism also makes him multi-dimensional as he produced 79 yards on 16 rushing attempts last week.

Defensively, Linebackers Kyle Ashcraft (10.5 Tackles, 1 Tackle for Loss) and Casey Nau (7 Tackles, 2 Tackles for Loss) led Louisville in tackles last week against Canfield. Nau also recovered a fumble which was one of the Leopards two takeaways in the opener. The other was an interception by Defensive Back Joe Crank who along with Stephen Kerzan (6 Tackles, 4 Solo) and Jake Mathie (7 Tackles, 3 Solo) will lead the secondary.

After allowing a breakaway run on the opening drive, the Leopard Defense settled in to allow just 145 yards of offense (3.2 yards per play) the remainder of the game. Run Stuffers on the Defensive Line included Frankie Falcone (6 Tackles, 2 Sacks), Daichi Castles (4 Tackles, 2 Solo), and Defensive Player of the Week Tanner Brahler (2 Tackles, 1 Sack).

On Special Teams, Kicker Austin Terra was a perfect 3 of 3 on extra points and also booted home his only field goal attempt from 20 yards away against the Cardinals. Zwick averaged 29.2 yards on 5 punts during the contest as well. In the return game, Jake Mathie registered the only recorded punt return for 18 yards. Both Canfield kickoffs were touchbacks last week, so we have yet to see a kick return by a Louisville player.

VIKINGS

The majority of the Hoover offense last week fell on the shoulders of Senior Quarterback Kyle Braucher who finished with 144 yards through the air and 112 yards & the only two touchdowns on the ground. Hoover as a team completed just 5 of 22 passes for 171 yards, but rushed for 176 yards on 43 carries.

Other offensive highlights included Zach Johnson showing his big play ability catching 2 passes for gains of 56 and 55 yards. Jack Jajack, (1 Catch, 33 Yards), Brandon Rhodes (1 Catch, 18 Yards), and Alex Nicholson (1 Catch, 9 Yards) all made receptions in the passing game as well. Tyler Howell (14 Carries, 30 Yards) and Chris Bledsoe (7 Carries, 17 Yards) also got touches in the running game. They will look to run behind the offensive line that is highlighted by Yale committed Ian Baker (6’5, 220) and Jake Massolini (6’3, 290).

Players to watch on defense include Middle Linebacker Clay Haverfield who was 1st Team All-County a season ago. Haverfield led Stark County with a 148 Tackles in 2013. He will be aided in the Linebacking core by Jajack who had 81 tackles and 2 interceptions a year ago as well. In the secondary, Dylan Albaugh recorded the only takeaway with an interception against the Bulldogs. He returns after a stellar 2013 season: 47 Tackles, 2 Interceptions, 6 Pass Breakups. Baker will also anchor the defensive line.

On special teams, Kicker Eric Sarbaugh was 1 of 2 on field goal attempts booting home a 23 yarder. He also made both extra point kicks and averaged 49.8 yards per kickoff. Cameron Mayle averaged 33 yards per punt against Stow with his longest pooch being 40 yards in length. In the return game, Bledsoe returned one kick 71 yards in length and Howell averaged 22 yards on 4 kick returns.
