PREVIEW

With their starting quarterback out, the Leopards will be playing with heart at Carrollton’s homecoming game this weekend.  After losing their starting quarterback last season at Alliance in a simliar scenario, Louisville responded with a 43-7 victory.  This year may not be so easy as  the Warriors will also be playing with emotion as well.  It will be the first game back home for them since the passing of cheerleader McKayla Hoopes.  It should be an emotional game for both teams come Friday and both teams are on the outside looking in at a playoff birth.  With this being a must win for both teams, expect a playoff atmosphere in the Black Hole Friday.

LEOPARDS

OFFENSE: The Leopards will be without 86% of their total offensive yards this season come Friday night as Quarterback Joey Duckworth went down with an injury last week against Alliance.  Jeremy McQuilkin stepped in at quarterback completing 8 of 10 passes for 54 yards and led the Leopards on a 6 play 70 yard scoring drive.  Other than that, the Leopards offense could not produce any further points without Duckworth, but did close out the game by running Wide Receiver Trent Ohman out of a Wildcat type formation.  Ohman ran for 73 yards on 10 carries last week against Alliance and scampered for 3 huge first downs to secure a Louisville victory.  When Ohman is not taking snaps he will continue to be the threat he has been all year in the passing game as he has made 40 receptions for 427 yards and caught 4 touchdowns.  Alex Schooley (26 catches, 210 yards, 3 TDs) and Alex Hollifield (17 catches, 260 yards, 2 TDs) will also provide targets for whoever takes the snaps at quarterback.  Also look for runningbacks Trey Hayford (60 yards, 4 TDs) and Walter Schrock to see more carries in the backfield as Louisville looks to keep the Warriors guessing.  The key to the entire offense will be the play of the offensive line that includes Aaron Carter (RT), Jonah Dawson (LT), Malik Kling (LG), Tanner Metz (C), and Nate Terry (RG).  If the line can block like they did in the final drive of the game against Alliance, the Leopards should not have trouble running the ball on a Carrollton defense that allowed 327 yards rushing last week at Marlington.

DEFENSE: The Leopards defense has allowed 200 yards per game on the ground, 111 yards per game through the air, and 22 points per game.  They are going to need to bring the level of intensity they had against Alliance if they are going Beatty's Sports Grey Louisville Athletics T-Shirtto limit Carrollton offensively and secure the victory.  Look for relentless pressure from lineman Dylan Kline, Cory Neff, and Mike Weiss up front.  The key to stopping Carrollton will be to shut down their running game from the start and forcing them into passing.   You should see some big hits from linebackers Charles Beamer and Josh Brown, while fellow linebacker Gary Anile (4 Interceptions) will look to spy the quarterback for interceptions as he has done all season.  If the front defense can clogged the running game and force Carrollton to pass, the Leopards have a host of ball hawking defenders in the secondary.  Trevor Hostetler and Garrett Yoder have recorded 2 interceptions each, while Kyle White and McQuilkin also picked off a pass last week against Alliance.  Takeaways and defensive scores may make the difference in this contest.

SPECIAL TEAMS: Ohman had a clutch 88 yard touchdown last week that propelled the Leopards past the Aviators 13-8.  Ohman has returned 7 punts this season averaging 19.3 yards per return and has also returned 10 kick returns averaging 24.9 yards per return with a long of 68 yards.  No Leopard is more dangerous in the open field than Ohman.  Merrick Storlie has converted all 18 extra point kicks this season and has made 3 of 5 field goal attempts.  He nearly set the school record for the longest field goal last week, but his 45 yard attempt fell just short off the crossbar.  Schooley has punted the ball 18 times this season averaging 32.1 yards per punt.  He has nailed 3 inside the 20 and his longest punt this season is 51 yards.

WARRIORS

OFFENSE: Quarterback Zade Deitz commands the Carrollton offensive attack completing 43 of 86 passes for 660 yards and 8 touchdowns versus 3 interceptions.  At Salem he threw for 4 of those touchdowns to tie the school record for most in single game.  Dietz also has 289 yards on 66 carries and 4 touchdowns rushing.  Dietz is 1 of 10 Carrollton offensive players who have reached the endzone this season.  Runningback Tyler Dodd leads the team in rushing with 568 yards on 66 carries and 7 touchdowns.  Jake Peterson also takes carries in the backfield, but typically does not stay long as he has broken free for explosive touchdown runs of 69 and 81 and also caught a 62 yard touchdown pass in Week 1.  Luke McNutt (13 carries for 136 yards) and Austin Miller (18 carries for 98 yards) each have a touchdown on the ground as well.  Storm Mohn leads the team in receiving with 11 catches for 202 yards and 4 touchdowns.  Lynk Tranter (6 receptions, 105 yards), Peterson (14 catches, 99 yards), Caleb Moyer (2 receptions, 74 yards), and Dodd (2 receptions, 37 yards) have all caught touchdowns this season as well.  Akron recruited Center Stephen Erickson (6’4, 265 lbs.) anchors the offensive line.

DEFENSE: The Warriors have allowed 265 yards per game and taken the ball away 10 times.  Linebacker Cody Stragan has provided problems for opposing offenses all year long leading the team in tackles (44), tackles for a loss (13), sacks (7), and fumble recoveries (2).  Also making their presence felt in the linebacking core are Miller (37 tackles, 3 for loss), Stephen Cole (29 tackles, 1 sack), Dodd (28 tackles, 9 for loss), and McNutt (26 tackles, 2 sacks),  In the secondary, defensive backs Peterson (19 tackles) and Adam Warner have intercepted two passes each, while Moyer (35 tackles), Tranter (24 tackles), and Caleb Hartong (24 tackles) have provided the hits.  Mohn, Caleb Pasiuk, and Ryan Spahr each have one interception this season as well.  The defensive line has produced 8 sacks and 17 tackles for a loss this season.  Austin Bentley (14 tackles, 4 for loss, 4 sacks), Connor Mosley (19 tackles, 6 for loss, 3 sacks), Richard Anderson (20 tackles, 5 for loss, 1 sack), and Trenton Leggett (20 tackles, 2 for loss) should all see time up front.

SPECIAL TEAMS: Daniel Leary has taken on the duties of kicking and punting for Carrollton this season.  He has converted on 18 of 19 extra point kicks, but has made just 1 of 5 field goals.  The field goal he did make was from 27 yards away.  Warriors special teams did allow a kick return touchdown in week one this season, but have not allowed anyone to breakaway since.
