Lady Leopards Fall to Crusaders in Overtime 52-49 – Girls Basketball

The Louisville Leopards Girls Varsity Basketball Team fell to the host Canton Central Catholic Crusaders 52-49 in overtime Wednesday Night at CCHS. With the loss, Louisville finishes the regular season with a record of 14-8.

Abby Beaver and Sarah Lairson each scored a team-high 16 points to lead the Leopards. Lairson finished with a double double in pulling down a game-high 10 rebounds. Beaver also dished out a game-high 7 assists and Alexa Oberster scored 9 points for Louisville.

The Leopards held an early 12-9 edge at the end of the first quarter and remained in front 20-18 at halftime. The Crusaders rallied in the third quarter to jump ahead 34-32 at the end of the third quarter. Louisville then edged Central in the fourth quarter to knot the evenly matched teams at 44-44 by the end of regulation.

The Crusaders went on to take the extra period 8-5 and the game. A defensive block on the final play of overtime sealed the victory for Central. The Grove Appliance Alliance Ohio AdCrusaders shot 52% (20 of 38) from the field for the game compared to the Leopards 38% (21 of 54). 

Katy Farey poured in a game-high 30 points to lead Canton Central Catholic. Erin Krupar also scored 14 points & grabbed a team-high 7 rebounds and Ashley Schott added 6 points for the Crusaders.

This is Louisville’s first loss at Canton Central Catholic since they fell 47-45 back on December 28, 1998. The Leopards now trail the all-time series 19-22 with an 8-10 record in games played on the Crusaders home court. The series is even in their past four meetings. This is the second known overtime meeting between the two squads with the other a 61-60 home Leopards victory back on December 23, 1987. Louisville is now 0-3 in overtime for the year and finishes the regular season 2-6 in out of conference play.

UP NEXT: The 6th Seed Lady Leopards will play at the 3rd Seed Jackson Polar Bears in the DI Canton Sectional Semifinals on Saturday, February 18 at 1:00 PM.

The Lady Leopards JV Team earned a 27-21 win over the host Crusaders in the season finale. Louisville finishes with an overall record of 17-4.

Morgan Cole led the Leopards with a team-high 6 points. Rachel Israel also scored 5 and both Emily Fresenko and Kayla Gibson added 4 each.

The Crusaders were led by Olivia Okress and Maggie Paul who scored a game-high 8 points each.
