Louisville Hangs On Vs. Canton South 35-28 to Pick Up 1st NBC Win

Louisville Leopards Wrestling Vs. Canton South 2012

Video Highlights

Louisville 35, Canton South 28

Louisville built a 32-13 advantage before holding off visiting Canton South to claim a 35-28 victory.  The win was the Leopards second straight over the Wildcats and Louisville is now 4-8 overall and 1-2 in conference play.

The Leopards set the tone early as Dakota Oliver (113) won by technical fall 18-3 and Todd Bradley (120) won by major decision 13-2.  However, Louisville’s advantage was vaporized as Canton Beatty's Winter HoodiesSouth would go on to win the next three matches and take a 13-9 lead.

The Leopards followed this with a run of their own.  Dane Dugan (145) survived his match to earn a 6-5 decision over South’s Austin Ness.  Then Dalton Deckerd (152) and Mark Robision (160) earned back-to-back pins for the boys in the blue and white.  Marshall Mason (170) kept things rolling for the Leopards picking up a 17-1 technical fall victory and finally Dale Welsh earned a 6-0 decision that all but sealed the deal for Louisville.

But Canton South won all of the top three weight classes to shrink the Leopards 19-point advantage to just 32-28.

It all came down to the 106 match-up between the Leopards Marshall Vick and the Wildcats Jacob Tucke.  Vick nearly pinned Tucke in the first period, but Canton South was saved by the buzzer.  Vick then built a huge advantage, but within the final ten seconds of the third period Tucke had Vick on the ropes for a pin.  Vick avoided possible devastation and the Leopards sidelines and fans breathed a huge sigh of relief when the buzzer sounded.  Vick won 13-8, but his victory more importantly gave Louisville the match 35-28.
