Louisville 3, Triway 0

Harrison Raub, Riley Groves, and Kyle Baker each scored goals and Goalie Austin Terra played a big role in leading the Leopards to a shutout 3-0 victory over Triway Saturday evening at Louisville Leopards Stadium.  With the victory, the Leopards have now won 4 Sectional Titles in the past 6 seasons.

After a defensive struggle through the first 38:26, the Leopards finally broke the scoreless tie.  Paul Fox drew a Triway foul and then took a free kick from about 47 yards away.  The ball Beatty's Sports Grey Louisville Athletics T-Shirtbounced off the football goal line and the sprinting Raub headed the ball with all of his momentum just before the Triway goalie was about to stop it.  Raub fell over and had to avoid hitting the ball with his hand in the process.  He successfully completed his mission and the ball landed into the net for his eighth goal of the year.

The Leps second goal of the contest was setup by the defensive effort of Jerry Julian and Michael Lautner.  Julian deflected a Titan pass and Lautner got a touch on it.  Lautner passed it to Baker on his right and Baker angled the ball back left to Fox who was just behind midfield.  Then Fox cleared a pass deep down the left-center of the field to a sprinting Groves.  Groves stayed onside and got a touch on it from about 15 yards out.  He then angled the ball sharply to the right way past the outstretched hands of the goalie and into the right side of the net for his 13th score of the season.

The Leopards second and third highest scorers of the season had already scored and Louisville’s lead scorer Kyle Baker got in on the party about 22 minutes later.  Lautner pushed a pass ahead to Baker who broke away from the defense.  Near the goal, Baker dribbled to the right as the Triway goalie attempted to defend.  Baker sneaked the ball around the goalie’s right side and into the net for his team-leading 18th score of the season.  The Leopards had taken a 3-0 lead with 7:50 left in the second half and would roll from that point on to claim their sectional crown.

With the win, the Leopards improve their record to 10-7.  This makes them the 6th Leps Boys Soccer team to accomplish double digit wins in their 13 year history.

On the same evening, Marlington defeated Canton South 10-0, so Louisville will travel to Marlington for their District Semifinal game Wednesday at 7:00 PM.  The Leopards have never made it further than the District Semifinals and lost to Marlington 8-4 back on September 4.
