West Branch 52, Louisville 40

The Warriors snapped a 6-game losing streak to the Leopards with a 52-40 victory over Louisville Tuesday Night at West Branch Field House.  Mike Kelly dropped in 17 points and Jake O’brien also scored 13 to lead the Leps.

The Leopards roared to a 5-0 start thanks to the first of 3 three-pointers on the night from O’brien and a lay-in by Kelly.  However, West Branch answered back with a 10-1 run and led 12-8 after the opening period ended.

The Warriors Austen ReKolt hit a three-pointer to open the second period and the Warriors led 21-10 a little over midway through the quarter.  However, the Leopards closed the period on a 9-1 run.  Louisville had 7 fouls to the Warriors 2 at the break, yet only trailed by three.

The Leopards fell behind 30-21 to begin the second half, but were starting to inch back near the end of the third period.  A Bill Lairson to Joey Duckworth connection cut the deficit to 32-26 with 1:19 to play in the period.

Then came the turning point of the contest.  In the final 48 seconds of the third, ReKolt buried home two more three-pointers to blow open the Warrior lead to 38-26.  ReKolt finished the night with a game-high 18 points for West Branch.

The Leopards came out firing in the fourth quarter, but could only connect on 3 of 11 attempts from beyond the arch.  On the other end of the court, the Warriors of Beloit juiced the clock and made 11 of 17 free throws in the fourth quarter to ice the game.

West Branch’s Jacob Griffith also had three big blocks and added 13 points.  The Warriors also out-rebound the Leopards 23-12 led by Matt Lathar’s 8 boards.  The biggest difference in the game was that Louisville out-fouled West Branch 22-10.  The Warriors hit 15 of 25 free throws to the Leopards 5 of 10 performance, which was almost literally the difference in the contest.
