Leopards Grapplers Take Down South 37-23
Louisville 37, Canton South 23
Lucas Poyser, Nathan Changet, and Dakota Oliver each had pins to help lead the Leopards wrestling team to a 37-23 win over Canton South Thursday Night at Faircrest Middle School in Canton Township.
Louisville stormed out to a 19-0 advantage to start the match. Ray Fitz (152) earned a 9-1 major decision over South’s Gust Malavite in the opening dual. Poyser (160) followed that act by pinning Jammy Simmons 1:45 into the scrum. The Louisville domination then continued as Dale Welsh (170) defeated Matthew Edgell 9-4 and Changet pinned Charic Musgrave 1:33 into the face-off.
A few matches later Cole McElroy (220) used two reversals to edge out Dennis Parson for a 4-3 advantage that gave Louisville a 22-4 lead.
The Wildcats would get pins from Ken Hodge (285) and Todd Bradley (113) to chip into the Louisville lead. However, Oliver’s (106) pin of Sam Johnson in the lightweight match-up countered one of the Canton South pins, leaving the score 27-16 with five decisions remaining.
Adam LePar (126) would survive Devon Haren for a 7-5 decision, before Logan O’brien (132) delivered the meet-clinching blow as he earned a 10-5 victory over South’s Dylan Dolph. Gavin Lovejoy (145) closed out the scoring by earning a 10-1 major decision over Jamey Heron in the closing match of the meet.
The Leopards are now 2-1 in the NBC with archrival Minerva Lions coming to town next Thursday.
