Leopards Fall in District Semifinals to Vikings
North Canton 4, Louisville 0
The Louisville Lady Leopards 2014 season came to a close Thursday after they fell to the top-seeded North Canton Hoover Vikings 4-0 in the DI Massillon District Semifinals. With the loss, Louisville finishes with an overall record of 19-7.
The turning point in the game came in the top of the fifth inning. The Lady Leopards trailed 1-0 and 
loaded the bases with just one out. What followed was nightmarish deja vu as the Vikings twisted a double play to end the frame just as they had done a year ago in the District Finals.
Hoover took advantage of the momentum and Kelly Dillow hit a 2-run single in the bottom of the fifth to put the Vikings up for good. North Canton is now 23-3 on the season and will face Jackson in the District Finals Friday.
Louisville managed to pound out just 4 hits in the contest. Amy Hoover’s 2-out double in the third inning was the Leopards only extra basehit of the game. Emily Cantley, Grace Jackson, and Annie Woolf recorded the other three hits. In the circle, Freshman Kirsten Wharmby pitched all six innings, struck out 2, and gave up just 2 earned runs against the defending state champions.
The Vikings were led by Pitcher Tara Thacker who threw a complete game shutout and struck out 10. Hoover has taken the last 5 games against Louisville and leads the all-time series 37-4. North Canton has won all 6 meetings in the postseason as the Lady Leopards fall to 28-30 all-time in Tournament play.
