Leopards Conclude March With a Sweep of Green

Game 1: Louisville 7, Green 6

Mike Kelly hit a home run and Jon Crank also had 4 RBIs as the Leopards squeaked out a 7-6 victory at Green Saturday afternoon.  Joey Duckworth struck out 8 hitters in 4 innings of pitching to pick up his first win and Dillon Stertzbach earned his first save of the season.

The Leopards wasted no time in getting on the board as Kelly blasted a two-run homer to left to put Louisville up 2-0.  Later he hit a double in the third inning.  After advancing to third, Jon Crank hit a sac fly to bring him home and put the Leps up 3-1.  Kelly would finish the game going 3-for-3 and scoring 3 runs for Louisville.

After that, Green answered back with a four run third inning to take a 5-3 lead.  But Louisville countered with three runs in the top of the fourth.  Crank’s three-run double scored Connor Ruffier, Kyle White, and Kelly to put Louisville back up on top.

White would later help Louisville tack on an insurance run when he doubled and eventually stole home in the top of the sixth.  It would turn out to be the winning run because the Bulldogs tacked on a run themselves in the bottom of the sixth before Stertzbach closed out the game in the seventh.

Game 2: Louisville 9, Green 8

Green scored 6 runs in the bottom of the 7th, but the Leopards still survived with a 9-8 victory.  Riley Groves picked up his first win of the year and Dillon Stertzbach picked up his second save of the day.

JV REPORT

Game 1: Louisville 5, Green 3

Louisville put together a five-run fourth inning and held their lead throughout the remainder of the game to defeat Green 5-3 in game one of their doubleheader.  The first hit of the inning was a base-clearing three-run double by Zach Schaffner that scored Connor Zwick, Clay Hahn, and Corey Wilson.  Tim Butera then registered his second single of the contest that scored Schaffner.  Zach Shea, who had walked before Butera, then scored on a wild pitch to give Louisville a 5-3 lead.  The Leopards managed just three hits for the game, but still won the game.  Zwick also pitched the final six innings of the contest, shutout Green, and struck out 5 Bulldogs.

Game 2: Louisville 3, Green 2

Jeff Agnone chopped a pitch down the 1st base line in the bottom of the eighth and Schaffner slid home under the tag to give Louisville a 3-2 extra inning victory over Green.  The Leopards scored two runs in the first inning when Butera singled home Riley Graybeal and Schaffner scored on a wild pitch.  Louisville managed just 3 hits in the contest and did not have a single hit in the game-winning eighth.  Shea pitched 5.2 innings for the Leps and gave up 2 runs, 5 hits, and struck out 3.  Schaffner pitched the remainder of the game shutting out the Bulldogs.
