Lady Leps Take Opener Against GlenOak 62-47

HIGHLIGHTS:

Louisville 62, GlenOak 47

After GlenOak tied the game at 37-37 late in the third quarter, the Lady Leopards answered back with a 9-0 run launching them to a 62-47 win over the Golden Eagles Saturday afternoon.  Clara Lemmon had a game-high 18 points to lead the Leopards and Brianna Libertore & Mackenzie Storlie each added 10.

On their first regular season possession in the new gymnasium Angela Risaliti tossed the ball to Molly Brown who canned it through from just in front of the three-point arch giving the Lady Leps their first points of the season.

Louisville led 13-8 at the end of one and extended their lead to 30-24 at the break.  Libertore scored all ten of her points in the first half, 8 of which came in the second quarter.

Clara Lemmon

Clara Lemmon scored a game-high 18 points off the bench to help lead Louisville to their first win of the season.

In the third quarter, the Eagles narrowed the deficit to 32-30 before Louisville scored five straight points.  This run was topped off by a beautiful underhand lead pass from mid-court by Storlie into the arms of Lemmon who tapped it in off the glass with the left hand making it 37-30.

GlenOak would then use their fast break ability to tie the game at 37-37 with 2:04 remaining in the third quarter.  Five different Eagles scored in the third period, including freshman Rachel McNew who had a team high 15 points for the evening.

However, just as the lead had evaporated, it poured back down like a hail storm.  Louisville would go on a 9-0 run to close the quarter.  The run included two “And 1” opportunities off lay-ins, but neither Risalti or Clara Lemmon could convert the bonus free throw at the line.  The other five points came from a Hannah Lemmon jumper and a deep downtown swish from Risalti.  Louisville led 46-37 going into the fourth.

The Lady Leopards picked up right where they left off out of the gate in the final quarter.  Chandler Rice hit a deep two and Storlie found a wide open Clara Lemmon who hit her second three-pointer of the contest further padding their lead to 51-38.

The Leopards would use the charity stride to close out the game as Rice and Storlie combined to make 9 of 10 from the line in the fourth quarter.  In a game that featured 43 fouls among the two squads, Louisville made 21 of 28 free throws to ice the contest with a 62-47 victory in the first ever regular season girls basketball game at the newly renovated Louisville Gymnasium.
