Louisville 9, Alliance 1

Rachel Baughman scored a hat trick in the first half to set the school record for goals in a season as Louisville blew past Alliance 9-1 to complete an undefeated 6-0-1 run through the NBC.

Just as the game was about to start all of the lights at Rockhill Elementary School Soccer Stadium went dark.  The lights began to fire back on several minutes later and the Lady Leopards electrified crowd by scoring 7 goals in the first half.

It took Louisville just 2:29 to erase the scoreless tie when Lizzy Mont crossed a clear shot from the right side of the goal and into the left side of the net for the first goal of the game.  A few minutes later, an ecstatic Kelly Miller drove home the first goal of her career into the top center of the net.  Miller’s shot came via an assist from Sarah Jaroszyk to make it 2-nil Leps.

The speedy Baughman scored 50 seconds later on a breakaway goal that she tapped into the right side of the goal.  Then, seven minutes later Baughman broke free again and gracefully slid the ball into the right side of the net for the score.  The goal was setup by Sami Keefe forwarding the ball to Mont, and then Mont delivering a beautiful lead pass ahead to Baughman.

Including Baughman’s second goal, Louisville and Alliance combined to score four goals in a span of 3:34.  From the right corner Baughman centered a pass to Kayla Shankel who pounded the ball into the back of the net to make it 5-0.  Then, Alliance answered back just 38 seconds later to shatter the shutout.

Finally, the moment came for Baughman to rewrite Louisville soccer history with 20:21 left in the first half.  Keefe skipped a pass to her in the goal box and Baughman got a toe on it.  The ball Beatty's Sports Grey Louisville Athletics T-Shirtcrawled  into the net to make it 6-1 Louisville.  While an outside spectator may have not labeled this goal as jaw-dropping or mind-blowing, this goal completed a task that Baughman had worked so hard for all year long.  With her 33rd goal of the season, Baughman surpassed Carley Adams (32 Goals – 2008) to set the individual Louisville school record for goals in a single season.

The Lady Leopards tacked on three more goals before the contest ended to tally their highest offensive output of the season.  Devin Kring broke free to score a goal before the first half ended to put Louisville up 7-1 at the break.  Then in the second half Jaroszyk and Hannah Yeagley each floated home goals before the contest came to a close.

The Lady Leopards ran through the Jungle Tunnel, made by the faithful fans who had made the trip, and celebrated their first ever Outright NBC Girls Soccer Championship.  Louisville closes the regular season a team best 13-2-1 overall and also finishes an undefeated 6-0-1 in the NBC.
