VARSITY VOLLEYBALL SECTIONAL FINALS

Louisville 26-17-25-25-15, GlenOak 28-25-19-18-3

Louisville was sitting pretty.  They had a 14-3 lead in the fifth set against GlenOak at Lake High School Thursday Night.  A dig by Danielle Baker, a set by Maddie Gramoy, and a kill by Jordan Monnot.  Game, set, match the Lady Leopards had completed a comeback of epic proportions defeating the Golden Eagles 26-28, 17-25, 25-19, 25-18, 15-3 to win a Sectional Title.

It wasn’t all smiles and laughter though for Louisville.  After taking a 24-18 lead in the first set the Golden Eagles soared back with 6 straight points to tie the set at 24-24.  A battle back and forth finally ended with GlenOak coming out on top 28-26 after previously trailing 5-0 to start the set.

Momentum seemed completely in the Eagles favor as they took a 19-13 lead late in the second set.  A timeout by Head Coach Jodie Cress was followed by three straight Louisville points.  But, GlenOak closed the match on a 6-1 run after taking a timeout of their own to win the second set 25-17.

The Leopard were down two sets to none.  They didn’t panic, they remained confident, and most importantly they showed everyone in attendance what it means to have a heart of a Leopard.

Offensively, Baker would finish the night as the top server with 13 points, Molly Brown would lead the team with 13 kills, and Gramoy ended the night with 38 assists.  Brown also led the team defensively with 22 digs.

Louisville led most of the way in the third set taking leads of 9-4 and 20-13 before winning 25-19.  In the fourth set Louisville scored the first 4 points and eventually took a 12-4 advantage.  GlenOak answered back with a 6-1 run before Cress called a timeout.  The Lady Leps would win 8 of the next 9 points and eventually hang on to win the set 25-18.

Louisville had GlenOak right where they wanted them.  The Golden Eagles won the first point of the final set, but Louisville took the next 4 on a side out and off 3 serves by Gramoy.  The Golden Eagles scored again to make it 4-2, but then Louisville went on a 10-0 run in large part thanks to excellent serving by Baker.  GlenOak claimed one final side out to make the score 14-3.  Louisville was sitting pretty…

NEXT UP: The Lady Leps will take on the Jackson Polar Bears in the Uniontown District Semifinals at Lake High School on Tuesday, October 25 at 7:45 PM.
