The Lady Leopards came back from 13 down with a 15-0 second half run before taking the contest 58-46 over the Canton South Lady Wildcats Wednesday.  Clara Lemmon led all Lady Leopards scorers with 16 points, while Jordan Monnot poured in 11 and Hannah Lemmon added 10.

During the past two seasons, the Lady Leopards clinched the NBC Outright at home against Canton South.  This year’s game was not the final clincher in another championship run, but it may go down as the game that defined Louisville’s season.

The Lady Wildcats jumped out to a 13-0 advantage to start the game and held Louisville off the scoreboard for the first 4:51.  The hole had been dug like it had been at Carrollton a season ago, and the opposition was throwing dirt on their grave in the first quarter.  Hunter Harris scored 9 of her 10 points in the opening period to lead the Lady Cats.

But the Lady Leopards clawed back, as five different players scored to close the period and cut the South lead to 17-11.  Following that though, Canton South extended their advantage and took a 30-23 lead into the locker room.  Joelle Martin would finish the evening as Canton South’s leading scorer with 11.

Louisville crept back within 3 points in the third before Canton South ripped the game back open.  Kayla Uminski’s three-pointer with 1:51 left in the third gave the Lady Wildcats a 38-31 lead triggering an upset alert.

But the Lady Leopards showed why they are the 2-time defending NBC Champions with a fearless, definite answer.  Louisville would close the quarter on an 8-0 run and take a 39-38 lead heading into the fourth quarter.  They would also score the first seven points of the final period to go up 46-38.  Thus, in less than a four minute span Louisville had gone on a 15-0 run.

The Lady Leopards defense held the Lady Wildcats scoreless from the field for a span of 7:14 during the end of the third quarter and deep into the fourth quarter.  Their tenacious defense and Beatty's Winter Hoodieshustle led Canton South to turn the ball over 31 times on the night.  Mackenzie Rankin gave the South guards fits in the front court, which led to several breakaway buckets and 9 points of her own.  Clara Lemmon, Hannah Lemmon, Monnot, Emily Nees, and possibly others also recorded second half steals to aid the Leopard rally.

Louisville, who hadn’t led until the final minute of the third quarter, was now the team running out the clock in the final seconds and sealing their 19th straight conference victory.  The Lady Leopards celebrated the comeback victory, but the mountain is still only halfway climbed.  At the midpoint of the conference schedule Louisville is 7-0 and they will look to remain unbeaten in the league when they host Minerva Saturday.

The Lady Leopards have now taken the last five meetings against the Lady Wildcats and lead the all-time series 56-23.  With the win, Louisville also holds a 30-10 record over Canton South at home and has won their last 15 NBC games at LHS.
