Lady Leopards Explode for 15-0 Win Against Salem

Louisville 15, Salem 0, 5 Innings

The Lady Leopards built an 8-0 lead then exploded for 7 more runs in the fourth inning before defeating the visiting Salem Quakers 15-0 in 5 innings Thursday. With the victory, Louisville improves 5-1 overall and 4-0 in the NBC.

Beatty's Sports Softball Shirt 2013On the mound, Gianna Falcone struck out 7 and pitched a one-hit shutout. The only Quaker hit came in the opening at-bat of the contest.

Offensively the Leopards were led by Grace Jackson who went 3-for-3 with a Double, 3 RBIs, and 3 Runs. Amy Hoover also cracked a 3-run double in the fourth inning that accounted for 3 of her team-leading 4 RBIs on the evening. Shelby Swigert also drove in three runs for the Leopards and Annie Woolf launched a solo home run over the left field fence in the third inning.

Eleven different Louisville players scored in the contest. Both Jackson and Lexi Givens crossed the plate 3 times each.

Louisville is now 5-0 all-time against Salem and have outscored the Quakers 71-2 in those contests. The 15-0 victory is the Leopards largest margin of victory since defeating GlenOak 18-2 in the opening game of 2012. The last time Louisville defeated an NBC team by this wide of a margin came in 2002 when the Leopards defeated the Northwest Indians 17-1 in 6 innings.  Louisville’s largest NBC victories ever came against Minerva, first on April 25, 1991 when they defeated the Lions 25-5 in 6 innings and second on May 2, 1992 when the Leps defeated the Lions 23-3 in 5 innings.  The 15-0 win Thursday marks the largest shutout win in the history of Louisville NBC play.

At Minerva, the Leopards struck both early and late to seal a 9-2 victory over the Lions. Louisville scored 4 runs in the opening inning and also 5 runs in the seventh.

Katie Cozy led the offense going 2-for-4 with double, 3 RBIs, and 2 runs. Chandler Rice and Grace Jackson also drove in 2 runs a piece. Rice pounded out two hits and Keri Hupp also went 2-for-2 for Louisville. Both Rice and Hupp hit triples in the contest as well.

With the victory, Louisville is now 33-10 against Minerva all-time and has won the last 9 meetings overall.
