Lady Leopards Dominate Orrville Invitational, Capture 1st

The Lady Leopards Tennis team dominated the Orrville Invitational Saturday morning.  All three Singles players and #2 Doubles won all of their matches in straight sets.

Gretchen Groves defeated Hallie Adcock (Orrville) 6-1, 6-2 and Madison Cyphert (Tallmadge) 6-1, 6-1 to claim first place in #1 singles.  Alexis Isla followed suit in #2 Singles by shutting out Michelle House (Dover) 6-0, 6-0 and defeating Lauren Cyphert (Tallmadge) 6-1,6-1 in the championship.  Also, Sam Pukys shutout both Alexis Thomas (Orrville) and Samantha McNulty (Tallmadge) by a count of 6-0, 6-0.

Ciara Antonacci and Hannah Lemmon won a tie-breaker in the second set 8-6 to claim the match 6-3, 7-6 over Dover’s Courtney Kourie & Sierra Sandy.  Then the pair cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 victory in the championship match over Tallmadge’s Dominique McGraw & Emilia Rowland.

Finally, Louisville’s bid for a sweep fell just short in a hard-fought #2 Doubles match.  Sarah Robbins & Lindsay Brindack easily defeated Tallmadge’s Madeline Carter & Stevie Zarlie 6-1, 6-3 in the first round.  However, the Tornadoes pair of Meredith Moore & Marquette Hovan jumped out to a 6-3 win in the first set of the championship match.  Louisville then found themselves on the short-end of the second set tie-breaker 7-4.  Dover won the match 3-6, 6-7 to claim the only no-Leopard title of the day, but still a well-earned second place finish.
