Jordan Monnot scored 18 points and Hannah Lemmon added 12 as the Louisville Lady Leopards knocked off West Branch 50-38 at Louisville High School Saturday Afternoon.  The win keeps the Lady Leps in first place atop the NBC at 3-1, 2-0.

The Lady Leopards had an answer for everything the Lady Warriors threw at them.  Louisville hustled after loose balls, crashed the boards, and hit key shots during this early mammoth NBC contest.   Monnot and Clara Lemmon grabbed 14 rebounds a piece as Louisville held a 38-19 advantage on the boards.

Another big key to Louisville’s success was their perimeter shooting.  The Lady Leps got off to a fast start by hitting 4 three-pointers in the opening half.  Clara Lemmon scored 2 of those triples, while Monnot and Hannah Lemmon hit the others.  Monnot scored 7 points in each of the first two periods as the Lady Leopards took a stunning 28-20 lead into the locker room.

Pavin Heath kept the Warriors in the contest by hitting 3 three-pointers in the  second quarter alone.  Heath would finish with a team-high 11 points on the afternoon.  Out of the locker room, West Branch roared back with a 14-4 run to take a 34-32 lead late in the third quarter.  Brittany Bryte, Erica Johnson, and Melinda Trimmer each scored 4 points to propel the run.

But just like that the green momentum was gone as Hannah Lemmon canned a three-pointer before the quarter ended to put Louisville back on top 35-34.  This was the beginning of a 16-0 Louisville run that saw the Lady Leopards shutout the Lady Warriors from the field for a span of nearly eight minutes.

Emily Nees started the onslaught by delivering a beautiful pass to Chandler Rice for the fast break lay-in.  Then Monnot tip-toed the baseline before scoring on a reverse layup to make it 39-34 Beatty's Winter HoodiesLeps.  After that, Hannah Lemmon scored on back-to-back layups and was fouled on the second of the pair.  She converted from the line for her fifth point of the quarter to give Louisville a double digit advantage with 4:29 left to play.  Buckets by Monnot and Hollyann Mullett increased the Louisville lead to their largest of the contest at 48-34.

West Branch failed to score in the quarter until the 2:23 mark when Heath put in a pair of free throws.  Bryte, who finished with 9 points, scored the only Warriors field goal of the fourth quarter with 1:22 left in the game.

The defense of the two-time defending NBC Champions had prevailed as they moved to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in the NBC.  The win is also Louisville’s third straight at home against West Branch.

The finish line to a third straight NBC Title remains a spec in the distance, but on Saturday the girls in blue & white took a major sprint forward.
