Jackson Ties Season HR Mark as Softball Sinks Lake
Louisville 5, Lake 3
The Louisville Leopards sunk the host Lake Blue Streaks 5-3 on a picture perfect day for Softball at Lake High School. With the win, Louisville heads into Sunday’s DI Massillon District Tournament Draw with 8 straight victories and a record of 15-6.
Grace Jackson batted 2-for-4 with a run scored and a 3-run homer in the second inning to lead the Leopards. The bomb that cleared the right-center field fence was her 10th home run of the season, tying her with Desi Givens (2011) for the LHS Single Season mark. Givens reached double digit home runs in 26 games, while this was Jackson’s 21st game of the season.
In the circle, Morgan Harris pitched a complete game, gave up just 1 earned run on 1 hit, and struck out 5 for Louisville. Harris carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning before the pinch-hitting Morgan Hadinger singled to right-center for Lake. With the win, Harris improves her season record to 8-3.
Emily Cantley also went 3-for-3 at the plate with an RBI double in the seventh and a sacrifice fly in the first to round out the Leopards offensive highlights.
Macy Cook had the only Blue Streaks RBI in the seventh on a sacrifice fly that found the glove of the diving Kylie Zifer. Emma McNamara pitched a complete game and struck out 6 in a losing effort on the rubber.
With the victory, Louisville has now defeated Lake in their past 3 meetings and has taken 7 out of the last 9 in the series overall. The Lady Leopards still trail the all-time series 15-29 overall and 7-13 on the Blue Streaks turf. However, Louisville has taken the last three road contests in the series.
UP NEXT: The Lady Leopards will next host the Minerva Lions on Tuesday, May 5 at 4:30 PM.
