Groves Shuts Down Carrollton 3-0, Leps Pull Above .500

Riley Groves Louisville Leopards Baseball

Louisville 3, Carrollton 0

Riley Groves pitched a complete game 3-hit shutout and struck out 5 to lead Louisville to a 3-0 road victory at Carrollton. With the victory the Leopards have won 8 of their last 10 Beatty's Sports Baseballl Shirt 2013games and for the first time all season pull above .500.

Just like on Tuesday, Louisville struck early against Carrollton and held their lead from there. In the first inning, Joey Duckworth singled home Kyle White and Jordan Hughes’ sacrifice fly brought home Groves. In the second inning, Pavin Parks doubled home Alex Hollifield to give the Leopards a 3-0 cushion.

It was all Groves and the defense after that. The Senior pitcher surrendered a single to the Warriors to start the second inning, but retired the next 11 Carrollton batters after that. The Warriors failed to tally their second hit of the contest until the bottom of the sixth inning. Groves is now 3-3 on the season with all three of his victories coming in the form of complete game shutouts. The Leopards Ace also has a whooping 0.58 ERA in 36 innings pitched.

Louisville pounded out 7 hits as a team. Duckworth, Groves, and Parks all had 2 hits a piece. Louisville is now 11-10 overall and more importantly 9-3 in NBC play. They are one game back of the NBC-leading Canton South Wildcats with two games to play. The Leps will travel to sixth place Marlington Saturday at 11 AM and also host the Dukes next Thursday at 4:30 PM. The Cats will take on the third-place Alliance Aviators on Tuesday and Thursday next week.
