Greatest Soccer Season in Louisville History Ends Vs. Powerhouse

Louisville Lady Leopards Soccer 2012 at Jackson Polar Bears

Video Highlights

Jackson 5, Louisville 1

The Louisville Lady Leopards Girls Soccer team concluded their historic season with a 5-1 loss to the top-seeded Jackson Polar Bears Tuesday Night at Rick Neitzelt Stadium.  Rachel Baughman’s second half goal off an assist by Lizz Stefanik was the Leopards only score of the match.  Louisville finishes the season a school best 15-3-1.

The Lady Leopards went down swinging.  For the first 37 minutes of the contest they kept the game knotted in a scoreless tie.  But their fortune’s turned South as Jackson stole momentum with Beatty's Sports Grey Louisville Athletics T-Shirt2 goals in the final 2:41 of the first half.  The first came off the foot of Caitlyn Patton and the second came off a fast break from Haleigh Guerra as time expired in the half.  The second goal was the most devastating as it not only gave the Polar Bears a two goal advantage, but the very nature of them scoring in the final seconds downed the Lady Leps spirits into the break.

Still they fought on and gave the top-seeded team in the tournament all they could handle.  With 27:50 left in the game, Louisville finally broke through.  Stefanik passed the ball to the right side of the field over to Baughman.  She dribbled left and forward a few feet before bouncing the ball into the center of the net for her 35th Goal of the 2012 campaign.  Hope was kindled.

Louisville played with fire for the next 15 minutes, especially on the defensive end.  Kelly Miller, Sarah Wyss, and Becca Springman all stopped potential Polar Bear scores near the net.  Louisville could not quite pluck hom4 a goal though, which left Jackson an opportunity to seal the deal.

The Polar Bears scored two goals in a span of 38 seconds to bury the Leopards and then added an additional goal later to finalize the score at 5-1.  Scoring those goals for Jackson were Madeline Tietski, Abby Gindlesberger, and Rachel Bender.

The time ticked down and the greatest girls soccer season in Louisville High School history ended.  But rather than dwell on the end and one small part of their season, let’s look back on all that they have accomplished this year:

  • 15 – Most Wins in Team History
  • .833 – Highest Winning Percentage in Team History
  • 9 – Longest Winning Streak in Team History
  • 6 – Most NBC Wins in Team History
  • 73 – Most Goals in Team History
  • 35 – Most Individual Goals in Team History by Rachel Baughman
  • 1st Team to Ever Beat Marlington
  • 1st Ever Outright NBC Title
  • 1st Ever Sectional Championship
But even with these great accomplishments, there is still history to be written.  With as young as Louisville is, an experienced 2013 Lady Leopards Squad should be even scarier.
