#2 Louisville 9, #7 GlenOak 2

The #2 Seed Louisville Leopards Varsity Softball Team downed the #7 Seed GlenOak Golden Eagles 9-2 in the DI Massillon Sectional Finals Leopard Nation Long Sleeve Grey Shirt - Under Armor - Louisville Leopards Spring 2017Wednesday at the Diamond of Dreams. Louisville improves to 19-3 with the victory and advances to face the #6 Seed Lake Blue Streaks in the DI Massillon District Semifinals on Tuesday, May 16.

Starting Pitcher Sarah Cantley pitched a complete game, gave up 0 earned runs on 4 hits, and struck out 9 to lead the Leopards. With the result, the Sophomore Pitcher notches her 10th victory of the season.

Twice Sarah Seatter led off an inning with a triple for the Golden Eagles and twice Cantley sent the next three GlenOak batters down in order. In the first inning she struck out 3 Golden Eagles swinging stranding Seatter on third. In the fifth inning, a strikeout, a fly out to center fielder Ellie Jackson, and a groundout to second basemen Sydney McKeever ended the frame.

The Leopards offense was fueled by contributions throughout their lineup. Seven different Louisville batters accounted for the team’s 13 hits in the game, 4 players drove in runs, and 6 separate Leopards came home.

Louisville claimed their first lead when Sydney McKeever cracked an opposite field 2-run triple down a vacant left field line in the bottom of the second. Grove Appliance Alliance Ohio AdThe hit plated Riley Bobo from third and it also drove in her sister Peyton McKeever from second. Sydney McKeever scored herself on a wild pitch to put the Leopards in front 3-1.

After surrendering a second run to GlenOak in the top of the third, Louisville tacked on to their advantage with a pair of runs. Rylee Squire singled on a ground ball up the middle to bring home courtesy runner Justina Sirohman from third and Savannah Miner from second. Squire would finish 2-for-3 at the dish and Miner went 3-for-4.

The Leopards removed all doubt with a 4-run fifth inning. Miner singled to right to start the frame. Then Jackson blasted a 1-2 pitch over the right-center field wall for a 2-run homer. The dinger was Jackson’s first Varsity home run and she was mobbed at the plate by her teammates.

Teagan Rice also smacked a 2-run double that rolled all the way to the wall in left-center. Both McKeever sisters scored on the play to make it 9-2 Louisville. Rice finished the evening 3-for-4.

With the victory, the Leopards have now won 3 straight over the Golden Eagles. GlenOak still leads the all-time series 21-15 including a 10-8 mark at Louisville. The two teams have now met 6 times in the postseason and the series is dead even at 3-3. This was the third straight year that they met in the Sectional Finals with the first two being played at GlenOak. The Golden Eagles won 5-1 in 2015 and the Leopards won a 1-0 thriller exactly one year ago to Wednesday’s win.

The Lady Leopards have now won 14 Sectional Titles in their 33 year history. Louisville has now advanced to the Division I District Tournament 8 times with this being their 7th trip in the last 8 seasons. The Leopards will face off against the #6 Seed Lake Blue Streaks in DI Massillon District Semifinals on Tuesday, May 16. Game time is slated for 5:00 PM at Massillon Washington High School’s Eagles #190 Sports Complex.

UP NEXT: The Lady Leopards will next host the Carrollton Warriors on Thursday, May 11 at 5:00 PM.
