Louisville 3, Green 0

It wasn’t easy, but the Lady Leopards produced three runs in the bottom of the sixth to earn a 3-0 shutout win over the visiting Green Bulldogs. The victory is the 100th career win for Louisville Head Coach Chet Givens as the Lady Leps move to 16-2 heading into the weekend of the tournament draw.

In the circle Gianna Falcone (16-2) was dominate again in earning her eighth shutout of the season. Falcone pitched all seven innings, gave up just 3 hits, and fanned 3. Falcone did not allow a hit after the second inning and retired 11 consecutive hitters to close the contest.

Annie Woolf’s second single of the contest started the Leopards engine in the sixth. The pinch-running Grace Jackson then stole second and then came home via Jordan Monnot’s Beatty's Sports Softball Shirt 2013base hit to right. Monnot ended up on third via an error and with all eyes on her Lexi Givens bunted aboard to put runners on the corners. Givens then stole second via defensive indifference and that set the table for Keri Hupp.

Hupp, who already hit a single earlier in the contest, provided a two-run single that hugged just inside the right foul line allowing both Monnot and Givens to score. Amy Hoover also tallied two hits on offense.

The Leopard defense made play after play to keep the Bulldogs at bay and as a result Louisville defeated Green for the fourth time in less than a calendar year. The Lady Leopards are now 4-3 all-time against the Bulldog and improve to 6-2 against Division I opponents. Louisville will be looking for a high seed in Sunday’s tournament draw.

In his fifth year of coaching, Givens is now 100-26 (.794) with 12 of those losses coming during his rookie coaching season. The Lady Leopards are on the verge of winning their fifth straight outright NBC Title under him after the program had just one co-league title (2002) previous to that. Givens’ team has compiled a 62-4 (.939) record against NBC foes, with three of those losses again coming in 2009. The program had previously gone 2-12 and 5-9 in the NBC before he turned the tables. Congratulations and Thank You Chet for making Louisville Softball what it is today!
