Girls Soccer Upends Salem 4-1, Horton Scores Twice

The Louisville Lady Leopards Girls Soccer team upended the host Salem Quakers 4-1 Wednesday Evening at Reilly Stadium. With the victory, Louisville is now 6-7-2 overall and improves to 4-1-1 in NBC play.
Brianna Horton led the Leopards by scoring a goal in each half. Horton scored what proved to be the game winning goal with 3:11 left in the first half and headed home a goal with 13:10 left in the second half to remove all doubt at 4-1. Horton has now found the net 6 times this season.
Hannah Baughman provided the assists on each of Horton’s goals and also tallied her own score with about a half hour to play. Baughman currently leads the team in both goals with 7 and assists with 8 this season.
The Leopards got on the board first when Lizzy Mont scored via an assist from Aubry Fankhauser with 22:55 left in the opening half. The Quakers (7-6-1, 3-3) answered back a few minutes later to tie the game at 1-1, but the Louisville defense shut them down after that.
With the victory, the Lady Leopards have now defeated the Quakers in four straight meetings. Louisville now leads the all-time series 4-1, which includes a 2-1 mark at Salem.
West Branch won at Marlington 4-0 Wednesday to take the lead in the NBC Girls Soccer Standings. The Leopards and Lions currently the Warriors for the top spot by a half game. Louisville and Minerva now need to win next Wednesday and have the Quakers pull the upset at West Branch to keep their NBC Title hopes alive.
UP NEXT: The Lady Leopards will next conclude the regular season when they host the Canton South Wildcats for Senior Night on Wednesday, October 14. Kickoff is set for 7:00 PM at Louisville Leopards Stadium.
