Girls Soccer Holds On for Win at Cuyahoga Falls
Louisville 2, Cuyahoga Falls 0
The Louisville Leopards Girls Soccer team held on to defeat the host Cuyahoga Falls Black Tigers 2-1 at Laybourne Field Wednesday Night. With the win, the Leopards become just the third team in Louisville history to begin the season an undefeated 3-0.
The two teams played to a scoreless stalemate in the first half as both defenses dominated. Each team got off just two shots on goal through the first 40 minutes as the Leopards finished their 5th straight half of shutout ball to start the season.
Louisville broke the ice early on in the second half. Maddie Berkebile headed in a goal via a cross pass from Bri Horton during the 44th minute. The score came just minutes after an earlier Leopards opportunity went just wide.

Horton headed in a goal of her own 12 minutes later in the 56th minute. Her score came via a free kick by Freshman Jenny Hamsher to put Louisville ahead 2-0.
Just before that, the Black Tigers nearly scored on a breakaway, but Leopards Goalie Celia Keefe came up with a huge save.
Louisville’s defense successfully shutout the opposition for the first 225 minutes of the season before Cuyahoga Falls broke the spell. Kaylie Ward banged home a goal off the post for the Black Tigers to cut the Leopards lead in half with 14 minutes to play.
Cuyahoga Falls threatened late in the game, but Louisville’s defense refused to give up the lead the rest of the way in clinching their sixth straight regular season win overall.
The Black Tigers dominated the Leopards a combined 16-0 in their first two match-ups back in 2007 (L 0-4) and 2009 (L 0-12). Louisville flipped the script on Cuyahoga Falls Wednesday and now trails the all-time series 1-2. The Lady Leopards played on the road for all three meetings.
UP NEXT: The Lady Leopards will next host the North Canton Hoover Vikings in their Home Opener on Monday, August 29 at 7:00 PM.
