Girls Basketball to Face New Philadelphia/Massillon Winner on Feb. 26

The Louisville Lady Leopards drew the 16th Seed Sunday in the DI Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary/North Canton Walsh University blended District Tournament Draw. They will face the winner of the #21 Seed Massillon Tigers at the #2 Seed New Philadelphia Quakers in the Sectional Finals on Thursday, February 26 at 7:00 PM.

New Philadelphia is currently 20-0 on the season and ranked #5 in the latest Division I AP Poll, while Massillon is currently 4-15 on the season. The Lady Quakers upended the Lady Tigers 58-38 back on December 29 at Massillon and are heavy favorites to win the Sectional Semifinal rematch on their home court taking place on Saturday, February 21 at 1:00 PM.

The higher seed hosts the Sectional games. If the Lady Quakers win, Louisville will travel to New Phiadelphia for the Sectional Final game; and if the Lady Tigers pull the upset, Louisville will host Massillon on February 26.

Below is a look at the possible match-ups, the tournament brackets, and the tournament seedings.

Louisville Vs. New Philadelphia Matchup

New Philadelphia defeated 3 of their 4 common opponents with Louisville that included a 50-37 win Beatty's Sports Leopards Pink Winter Hatover Canfield, a 56-48 win at Jackson, a 66-24 win over Minerva, and they will play at Canton Central Catholic on February 12. The Lady Leopards fell at Canfield 52-21, lost at Jackson 62-44, and swept Minerva winning 56-37 on the road and 45-41 at home in a wild triple overtime game. Louisville will travel to Canton Central Catholic’s new gymnasium for the regular season finale on February 18.

Head-to-Head the Lady Leopards are 3-5 against the Lady Quakers all-time which includes a 2-1 record at New Philadelphia. The two squads have never met in postseason tournament play. The Lady Quakers have won the last three meetings in the series overall including taking a 56-41 win over Louisville in their most recent meeting on December 30, 2013 at the Jackson Holiday Tournament.

Louisville Vs. Massillon Matchup

Massillon has gone 1-4 against common opponents with Louisville this season. They split a pair of games with the Crusaders winning 40-35 at Central Catholic and falling 54-52 in the Mayor’s Cup game. They also lost at Lake 55-35 and fell to GlenOak twice losing 57-35 on the road and 64-52 at home. The Lady Leopards have yet to play the Crusaders and fell at GlenOak in the season opener 57-34. However, Louisville did defeat Lake 53-44 at home back on December 3.

Head-to-Head the Lady Leopards are 12-7 against the Lady Tigers all-time which includes a 6-2 record a home. The two squads have met in the postseason four previous times with the tournament series tied at 2-2. The Lady Tigers won the most recent tournament matchup 53-43 on February 18, 2012. Massillon has defeated Louisville in each of their last three meetings together including the most recent contest a 42-37 Tiger win on January 16, 2013.

DI SVSM/Walsh Blended District Seed Order

In terms of the seeding, the Lady Leopards received 196 points from the draw vote and picked up he 16th seed. Football Rival North Canton Hoover gave Louisville the most votes with 13 (or the 12th seed). Akron Garfield, Marietta, and New Philadelphia all gave the Leopards their lowest vote total with 7 points each each (or the 18th seed). Below is a full breakdown of the seeding from the draw:
