Girls Basketball Finishes 9-5 in NBC After Win at Marlington

The Louisville Lady Leopards concluded NBC Play with their most lopsided victory of the season as they defeated the host Marlington Dukes 62-22 Wednesday Evening at MHS. With the victory, Louisville is now 12-9 overall and finishes 9-5 in the conference.

Sarah Lairson led the Lady Leopards as she alone outscored the Lady Dukes with a game-high 24 Beatty's Sports Leopards Pink Winter Hatpoints. Nine different Louisville players scored during the contest as Abby Beaver and Sabryna Benzel also added 7 a piece. Beaver also directed the offense with a game-high 7 assists.

The Leopards defense held the opposition to their lowest point total of the season for the second consecutive game. Grace Jackson’s hustle led the effort as she finished with 10 rebounds, 4 steals, and a block. Louisville recorded 5 swats and 10 steals as a team. Benzel also grabbed 7 boards and Lairson had 3 thefts.

Marlington was led by Morgan Penird who scored a team-high 8 points. Alyssa Powers also added 4 points and Robin Campbell had a team-high 6 rebounds.

With the victory, the Lady Leopards have now won 10 out of their last 11 meetings against the Lady Dukes and 17 out of the last 18 games at Marlington. Louisville now leads the all-time series 62-17 which includes a 32-6 mark at MHS. This is the second largest margin of victory in the series with only a Leopards 83-30 win over the host Dukes on November 29, 1988 being a greater margin. Overall this is Louisville’s most lopsided win since a 63-11 victory (52 point margin) at home against Alliance on February 4, 2012 and most lopsided road win since they defeated the Aviators 75-26 (49 point margin) back on January 7, 2012.

UP NEXT: The Lady Leopards will next conclude the regular season at Canton Central Catholic on Wednesday, February 18. JV will begin at 6:00 PM and Varsity will follow around 7:30 PM.

The JV Lady Leopards fell to the host Lady Dukes 50-44 in an overtime thriller Wednesday. With the loss, Louisville falls to 5-16 overall and finishes 4-10 against NBC competition.

Danielle Walter scored 13 of her game-high 18 points in the fourth quarter to lead the Lady Leopards. She also made 3 three-pointers during the game including a game-tying three with 2.3 seconds left in regulation which sent the game into overtime.

Marlington shutout Louisville 6-0 in the extra period to take the game. Brooke Brodzinski proved clutch for the Dukes as she made 5 of 6 free throws in overtime and scored all 11 of her points from the line for the game. Marlington finished by making 22 of 28 shots from the charity stripe as a team. Brianna Hoopes also scored a game-high 18 points to lead the Lady Dukes.

Rachel Israel scored the first 7 Louisville points of the contest and Hailey Miller also added 7 for the Lady Leopards.
