Freshman Basketball 7-3 After Fourth Straight Victory

The Louisville Leopards boys freshman team is off to a 7-2 start in the NBC and has a 7-3 record overall after winning four straight games.  Below is a write-up of each contest and pictures from the game vs. West Branch Monday night:


Louisville 49, Salem 26

The Leopards got off on the right foot in their first of three road games defeating the Quakers 49-26.  The key to the Leps success came in the second quarter when they outscored Salem 12-2.  Jake Mathie and Blake Hoover each scored double figures to lead Louisville in the contest.

Louisville 63, Alliance 38

The freshman Leopards won by their largest margin of the year thus far at Alliance on December 29.  Blake Hoover led all Louisville scorers with 11 points, while John Lairson also poured in 10 during the 63-38 victory.  The second quarter remained kind to the Leopards who scored 22 points in the period to take a 35-17 halftime lead.  Alliance’s Blue Blerton led all scorers with 15 and Mike Williams also tacked on 13 for the Aviators.  However, the Leps pulled ahead with solid performances from Jake Mathie and Austin Shaheen who scored 9 points each.



Louisville 55, Carrollton 34

The Leopards turned a tight game at halftime into a second half rout in their third consecutive road game at Carrollton.  The Leps outscored the Warriors 15-3 in the third quarter and eventually stormed to a 55-34 victory.  Jake Mathie paced Louisville with 14 points, while Joe Crank and Austin Shaheen each added 10.  Nathan Wilford led Carrollton with 9.

Louisville 46, West Branch 37

The Leopards finally returned home on Monday, January 9 and faced the Warriors of Beloit.  This Warriors team was also up for testing the Leopards early on, but Jake Mathie’s 4 three-pointers and 12 points proved to be the difference in the final outcome.  Josh Swanson also hit a three-pointer for the and poured in 10 points for Louisville.  Chipper Tuel led all scorers for West Branch with 14.
