Louisville 33, North Canton Hoover 20

The Louisville Leopards Varsity Football team avenged their only regular season loss of the 2014 season with a 33-20 victory over the visiting North Canton Hoover Vikings Friday Night at Louisville Leopards Stadium. With the win, Louisville is now 2-0 on the season.

Runningback Rahzul Young redeemed two earlier fumbles by catching the game-winning 7 yard touchdown pass on 4th-and-Goal from Jake Adams. The score broke a 20-20 tie with just 3:01 remaining in the contest.  Young finished as the game’s leading rusher with 22 carries for 111 yards and a touchdown.

On the ensuing extra point attempt, Holder Brody Hahn bobbled the snap and the conversion attempt failed leaving the score at 26-20 Louisville. However, Hahn also redeemed himself in a big way as he swatted down a Hoover 4th-and-7 pass at midfield and later sealed the game with a 25 yard pick six. Earlier Hahn caught an interception at midfield and in the first quarter batted away a potential Hoover touchdown early on to cap a monster night.

The two squads combined to turn the ball over 9 times. Louisville fumbled the ball away four times. The first two fumbles halted potential scoring opportunities. The second pair of lost fumbles followed takeaways by the Leopards defense just one play before.

Louisville intercepted North Canton on four occasions. Hahn had two interceptions as previously mentioned, Frankie Falcone picked off a pass to setup a Leopards scoring drive, and Cody Allgood ended the Vikings last gasp with a pick at the Louisville 13.

The Leopards only other takeaway came when Jimmy Leonard pounced on a North Canton fumble at the Louisville 42. One play later, Jake Adams connected with a wide open Tyler Adams on a 58 yard touchdown strike to put the Leopards ahead 14-3.

For the second straight week, Tyler Adams would finish as the game’s top receiver with 147 yards and also 9 catches. Behind Center, Jake Adams had another superb night in completing 20 of 27 passes for 290 yards & 3 touchdowns. Conner Bast also pulled in a 22 yard touchdown pass on a 4th-and-5 play to open the scoring in the second half. Bast ended the evening with 3 catches for 63 yards.

North Canton was led by Alex NIcholson who made 9 catches for 110 yards and scored both of the Vikings touchdowns. His second quarter touchdown was thrown by Sophomore Quarterback John Keller on 3rd-and–Goal from the 5 and his fourth quarter touchdown was thrown by Senior Quarterback Cameron Mayle on 4th-and-Goal from the 6. His second score knotted the game at 20-20 with 5:55 remaining in the game.

Mayle finished 16 of 29 for 177 yards through the air. Keller was Hoover’s leading rusher with 9 carries for 54 yards. Eric Sarbaugh also made 5 catches for 54 yards and was successful on field goal attempts of 27 and 34 yards.

The Leopards and Vikings have now traded victories in each of their past 7 meetings. Louisville now leads the all-time series over North Canton 55-35-5, which includes a 30-14-3 mark at home. The Leopards have now defeated the Vikings in 6 straight games at home dating back to 2005.
