Louisville 44, Canton South 21

The Louisville Leopards defeated the host Canton South Wildcats 44-21 in the Regular Season Finale at Beatty's Property of Louisville SweatshirtClyde Brechbuhler Stadium Friday Night. With the victory, Louisville is now 9-1 overall and finishes a perfect 7-0 in the NBC. The Leopards also became the first team to win three consecutive Outright NBC Titles.

Runningback Rahzul Young carried the ball 8 times for 76 yards and scored 3 touchdowns to lead the Leopards. The versatile Brock Haren also scored 2 touchdowns and Quarterback Jake Adams finished 14 of 18 for 203 yards with 2 touchdown passing.

Several Louisville players set team records Friday. Adams surpassed Neal Seaman (12 TD Passes in 2007) by throwing his 30th touchdown pass of the season. The recipient, Alec Jones, also tied both Brandon Mathie (2012) and teammate Tyler Adams (2015) for most touchdown catches in a single season with 12. Tyler Adams had a monster night with 7 catches for 149 yards to become the first receiver in Leopards history reach 1,000 receiving yards in a season (he now stands at 1,105 yards for the year).

He needed just 18 yards to set the single season receiving yards mark (Mathie had 973 yards in 2008) coming into the game. On Louisville’s first play from scrimmage, Adams gained 27 yards on a bubble screen to set the Leopards up with a 1st-and-Goal on the Wildcats 4. Young powered his way into the endzone on the next play to get Louisville on the board first. The drive’s short field was setup by a Casey Nau interception on Canton South’s opening drive of the contest.

The Wildcats showed promise on their second drive that took them to the Leopards 7. However, a holding penalty and a sack by Louisville Defensive Lineman Cade Stertzbach put the drive on ice.

On the following drive, the Leopards marched 70 yards on 6 plays to go ahead 16-0. The key play on Order Leopard Nation Highlight Videothe drive was again an Adams to Adams connection. Jake Adams hit Tyler Adams for a 47 yard gain to give Louisville new life on the Canton South 21. Three plays later, Jake Adams found Haren in the back of the endzone for a 10 yard score.

The Leopards got their second break of the game when the Wildcats fumbled away the ensuing kickoff. The Canton South returner bobbled the ball before being socked by Frankie Falcone. The boom jarred the ball free allowing Louisville’s Dalton Deckerd to recover it on the Wildcats 21. Three players later, Adams threw his record-breaking 8 yard touchdown pass to Jones on the first play of the second quarter to make it 23-0 Leopards.

Young would break free for touchdown runs of 43 and 7 yards to allow Louisville to take a 37-7 lead into the break. Haren would also cap off an 8 play, 58 yard drive with a 1 yard touchdown run with 3 seconds remaining in the third quarter.

The Wildcats (2-8, 1-6) would score twice in the final quarter to stop the clock from running. Trey Longoria capped off his 156 yard performance with an 8 yard touchdown scamper with 7:15 to play. Jake Daniska also caught a 30 yard touchdown pass from Silas Snyder for the other score with 3:09 to go. Khord Moore would finish as Canton South’s top receiver with 4 catches for 43  yards.

With the victory, the Leopards have now won three straight against the Wildcats and 8 straight at Canton South. Louisville now leads the all-time-series 52-18-3, which includes a 25-10-1 mark on the road. The Leopards have now won 10 Outright NBC Titles (3 of the 13 were shared) and this is the first time any team has won the NBC Outright in three consecutive years.

Heading into Week 11, Louisville had just a 12% chance to play Poland in the first round of the playoffs. However, Canfield threw a wrench into the DIII, Region 7 Computer Rankings by downing the previously undefeated Bulldogs 7-6. That dropped Poland down to 4th as they beat out Louisville for a home playoff game by a tenth of a point. As a result, The Leopards will rematch against the Bulldogs at Poland on Friday, November 6 at 7:30 PM in the DIII, Region 7 Quarterfinals rematch.

UP NEXT: The Leopards will next travel to Poland to take on the Bulldogs on Friday, November 6 at 7:30 PM for a DIII, Region 7 Quarterfinals rematch!
