Louisville 4, Perry 1

Rachel Baughman scored a Hat Trick’s worth of goals in just over a 10 minute first half span to lead Louisville over host Perry 4-1 Monday evening.  Sami Keefe tallied the only other goal for the Lady Leopards less than four minutes later and Lizz Stefanik finished the game with three assists for the 9-1 Lady Leopards.

For the first 23 minutes, the Leopards and Panthers fought hard to keep the game scoreless.  Then the dam broke loose and the Louisville river poured through.  In a span of 14:06 the Leopards lit up the scoreboard with 4 goals.  The Beatty's Sports Grey Louisville Athletics T-Shirtfirst goal came when Baughman used her head to redirect a chipped pass from Stefanik into the left side of the net.  The same Stefanik to Baughman connection would be used to score the second goal 6 minutes later.  Stefanik’s corner kick launched into the air and found the foot of Baughman who one-timed it into the goal.

Then Baughman saved her best for last.  After receiving a pass just outside the penalty box from teammate Devin Kring, she then kicked the ball back over her head to lose a pursing Perry defender.  Following that she dribbled in-between four Panther defenders before tapping the ball hard enough to where the diving goalie missed the save.  Baughman then dove feet first after the loose ball and knocked it into the net for her Hat Trick.

Louisville’s final goal of the game came when Stefanik tapped a pass over to Keefe just outside the penalty box.  Keefe skyrocketed it into the top of the net from 20 yards out for her second goal of the season.

The Lady Leps played solid defense throughout the second half with the only Perry goal coming late in the contest.  Goalie Becca Springman made several impressive saves in the goal box, nothing got by Jessica Hamsher, and Kelly Miller & Tara Stevens played stone-wall defense all night long.

The current eight straight matches without a defeat now stands alone as the longest Lady Leopards undefeated streak eclipsing the 7 straight games without a loss in 2004.  The win is Louisville’s third straight over Perry in the past two seasons and improves their all-time series lead over the Panthers to 5-2-1.  The Lady Leps finish 2-1 against the Federal League and will finish the regular season with 4 out of their remaining 6 games against NBC opponents.
